Very rarely but I do LOVE a good BLT every once in a while. I never eat it with eggs or on a burger, only on a BLT, and usually only a couple times per year.

Re: Bacon

I never thought about NOT giving it to my kids Chat Icon

I mean I know its not the healthiest food in the world, but if we go to a diner I always let them have a piece. But then again, my kids have a happy meal once a week and fast food here and there. The majority of their meals are healthy, I am just laid back when it comes to that stuff. i grew up eating bacon prob 2x/week and have always been healthy.

The UNcured kind.
I buy one pack a month, each serving is only 2 pcs.
It does spoil quickly though, so either I have to freeze it, or eat it several days in a row.

We do not eat bacon. I ate it as a kid and even then it was turkey bacon. My kids have never had bacon. We have a kosher style home.

Bacon

I love bacon. I don't have kids yet, but I wouldn't deprive them of something so delicious, lol. Obv it wouldn't be an every day (or even every week) thing, but once in a while is fine.

Love it!

Way too much, we don't keep it in the house because I'd eat it every day. My girls like it too. If we go out to eat breakfast, I give them some.

Re: Bacon

I see it as being no worse than a hot dog. That being said, I rarely eat it because of the nitrates, cholesterol, fat, etc. However, I do splurge once in a while. My picky eater DS has not tried it, but thats not necessarily because of us not allowing him, he just hasnt had the opportunity. We only have it if we are eating out, and then its rare, so he barely even sees us eat it. I would let him try it if he wanted it.

Re: Bacon

At home only turkey bacon and only once a week...during the work week I don't eat a full breakfast that would include bacon!
So only on Sunday's if my DH makes me eggs.../

If we go out to breakfast, then yes, real bacon...but we RARELY do that anymore.

As far as my DD_ I offered to let her try a piece of turkey bacon once but she refused- she is a PICKY eater so she has no desire to eat it.

I never get bacon on my burgers or anything else either- not a fan of it with anything but eggs

LOVE bacon, I try not to eat it often but I do eat it as a treat, I will allow my son to do the same. He is one year old so he has not had bacon yet but the boy loves salt so I imagine he will be a big fan lol

I LOVE bacon! I usually have it once a week (on the weekends). When I do, DS has some too (like 2-3 slices). I have no problem with it. We usually use the microwave bacon (we like it super crunchy/well done) and I try to get the nitrate free from Trader Joe's most of the time, but not always. YUM!

Tofurkey brand uses organic soybeans/soy ingredients. I have never seen it in a store, but according to their website they make a "bacon"

The nitrates are a concern ( bacon also contains antibiotics and pesticides, but this is in all inorganic meat so I assume people here are specifically talking about the nitrates. ) They might also be worried about how high the saturated fat content is.

Re: Bacon

It's funny, since I've been dieting I actually eat bacon more often. I buy the center cut kind which is lower in fat and calories, and it's one of those things where it has so much flavor that a little goes a long way. One piece on my egg white english muffin sandwich, a few pieces crumbled into a salad or put onto a cold cut sandwich, really pumps up the flavor with little cost.

My boys LOVE bacon and I do let them have it, but really only two or three times a month.
