Re: severe back pain
Yes! About a month ago, I had terrible back pain and couldn't walk or even stand up straight. It was horrible. My doctor (had to go to an emergency clinic) diagnosed back spasms and gave me muscle relaxers and Percocet. She also (very briefly) massaged my lower back to "try to break up some of the tension".
The pain meds really just made me sleep, but I think the muscle relaxers helped. I was out of work for 4 days. I put ice the first 24 hours, then heating pads.
My wonderful BF bought me a muscle stimulator thing. They use it at physical therapy places, it really helped my muscles and didn't cost a lot.

I also started yoga again, and one of the best things is CAT, COW, and CHILD poses. If it hurts too much, don't do it, but it's great for stretching.
Like I said, I was out of work for 4 days, and when I returned it still hurt to stand up straight for at least another week. I have had some recurrent soreness, but nothing like how it was initially. I have to keep up with the yoga and keep limber.
I hope you feel better soon!

severe back pain
Sorry to hear about your back. I recently had major back surgery in June. Have you tried heat to relax the muscles? A nice warm bath could help. Hope you are felling better soon:)

severe back pain
When my back hurt like that I had an MRI done and was found to have 2 herniated discs and a few aggravated discs as well. Physical therapy helped, as well as continuing the stretches at home.

Re: severe back pain
I have 6 herniations. yes, you read that right..SIX with other issues as well. Physical therapy is supposed to help and I think it would help long term, but I always found it aggravated my condition in the short term
Right now I take a muscle relaxer every night before bed to make sure my muscles are relaxing and I'm resting deeply. I also take Phenylalanine for pain prevention.
