Severe back pain? Please read.
My friend had colon cancer. He had about 5 months of chemo. Didnt totally go away like they thought it originally had. They are waiting a month to see if the tumor shrinks anymore and then deciding what the next steps are.
But now, he has SEVERE BACK PAIN constantly. Its in his mid back and travels everywhere after it starts. He takes percocet for the pain but cant live his life on pain meds. Only other thing that helps is warm showers/baths.
I suggested gallbladder possibly. Thats the pain I had and have often. Doctors say no. When I google..I find all sorts of scary things. They say the tumor isnt pressing on anything in his back. Does anyone have any ideas at all? Anything to throw out there? The doctors are really letting him down on this and I wanted to help him with some questions for them. If anyone has had experience with back pain, someone with colon cancer with back pain, anything, please let me know. FM if you feel more comfortable. Thanks so much.

Re: Severe back pain? Please read.
Can it be a side effect of the chemo? My Mom had colon cancer and I do not remember her having back pain, is it possible and I hope no that the cancer spread to the liver ? Unfortunately this is what happened to my Mom and she had terrible pains and was nauseous etc. I hope he is okay. I would press it with the dr's or go get another opinion.

What did his doctor say and is he doing additional testing? I would be nervous about the cancer spreading to his bones. I am not sure what stage he is. Hope it works out and he feels better!

This is going to sound hokey, especially for someone who has been through what your friend has been through, but I really recommend John Sarno. He cured both my parents' immobilizing back pain as well as numerous friends and other family members. Check it out.

This was my fear when I read this. I it's not the case. Please make sure he gets an answer.

Cancer treatment can cause severe muscle wasting and induce fibrosis. Did he have radiation treatment as well?
I am not a clinician but I worked with cancer patients who were in remission and they frequently had issues like this - we referred them to another program for treatment and eventual PT.
Hope he feels better soon.

Re: Severe back pain? Please read.
My dad had stage 3c colon cancer - It spread to his lymphactic system. He is currently in remission.
One result of aggressive chemo treatments is something neurapathy. It basically affects your nervous system. My dad has constant pain in his legs and feet. There isn't much you can do for the pain (my dad has tried everything from pain meds to accupuncture). It just takes time... and sometimes it never goes away.
's for your friend.
