had to say goodbye

i know i don't post very often but i felt i could & everyone would understand.

i had to say goodbye to my cat, Romeo, yesterday. he was 15 & 1/2, diagnosed with early stages of renal failure about 2 1/2 years ago. he was doing great for years but 2 weeks ago had a rapid decline. his numbers became progressively worse, despite sub-q fluids, antibiotics, etc.

i'm still in the crying non-stop/feel like i've been kicked in the gut while having my heart ripped out stage. i know it will get better but right now i just miss my little man. so please, hug your fur babies a little tighter tonight.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Oh no... I was just wondering about you the other day.... the cat food....

I am so sad to read this, I am so incredibly sorry. As you know, I just went through the exact same thing in October. My heart is breaking for you right now.


It does get easier, but your memories will never fade. I second-guessed everything for weeks.... you definitely made the right decision. Take whatever comfort you can from that.

I am so sorry ... I know the kick in the gut feeling and my baby is just sick... You are a wonderful person to have treated your babies illness for that amount of time.. God Bless you ..

so sorry for your loss. It will eventually get easier but 15.5 years is a long time to have him around so take your time with grieving. I promise though, it will get easier

thank you for all your kind thoughts. it's still hard but i know it will get better.

I am sooo sorry.
I know how hard it is.
When my cat died I really felt like I could not function.
I would just burst in to tears at random times, I couldn't stop thinking about it.
It was awful
Time helps it get better. It never fully goes away, but as time goes on I was able to think of her and smile instead of cry.

For now, just hang in there.
