What caused your miscarriage(s) ?

I really hope this is not too personal of a question to ask but if you want to divulge I am interested in hearing from others.

I have experienced three consecutive miscarriages - all in the last two years. I am 42 so my advanced maternal age is what I have going against me and they tested two of the miscarriages and found chromosome problems in both.

What caused your miscarriage(s) ?

A host of issues, mostly immunological. Have you seen an RE?

Re: What caused your miscarriage(s) ?

Ohh lots.

My first baby was not well and we found out at 16wk2d that due to a condition he had, he would probably not make it much longer. By 17wk3d our baby was gone and it was the most horrifying experience I had gone through in my entire journey - though at the time, that was just the beginning.

My next loss was a chemical. We will never know the actual cause of that since it can be attributed to so many things... immune, chromosomal.. My beta was 15 and I basically knew right off the bat it was not going to work out.

My next loss was triplets and it was due to a subchorionic hematoma that caused the sacs to separate from the uterine wall. I cringe when I hear people say "hopefully it's JUST a sch" .. Yeah, well just a stinky old sch caused me to lose 3 babies at once! Chat Icon Chat Icon It's rare- but it happens!

Finally, my loss after that was a single baby who was always growing behind. We believe it was likely chromosomal, though it was recommended at hat point that I not have a d&c since my uterus had gone through enough trauma and my lining was suffering because of it. It took about 4 months or so for my beta to drop and in that time, we were awaiting our surrogate.

Wow that's a mouthful. It's approaching the three year anniversary of my first loss and my prediction is I'll be having my baby on that day.

ETA: Just realized I forgot to mention the loss of one of our twins from this pregnancy. It's still a mystery to me what caused that. We did pgd so it's not likely it was chromosomal and were treating my immune issues... Goes to show sometimes whatever will be will be, despite the most amount of intervention and manipulation.

What caused your miscarriage(s) ?

I have had repeat losses.

1st- 11w, strong heartbeat seen several times, stopped beating at 9 weeks. No testing was done after my d&c bc it was my first loss.

2nd- 9w, baby had a very weak heartbeat, had to go once a week for a sono until it stopped. Slow torture. Testing after d&c showed Trisomy 18.

I swore I was not going to try again. Unexpectedly got pregnant the ONE time I DTD that month. DH joked that he wanted a paternity test! Gave birth to a healthy and perfect DD.

3rd- MC at home at 6 weeks. Nothing to test bc it was so early.

4th- My uterus ruptured at 9w5d bc the baby had implanted in a pocket of scar tissue from a previous surgery. Baby grew, scar tissue did not stretch, uterus busted. I bled internally, fainted, broke my four front teeth, was rushed to ER, given 5 pints of blood as a transfusion and my uterus was saved. Had extensive dental issues for almost a year, ended up with four new front teeth. Good times.

Started seeing an RE. Had several rounds of IUI before moving on to IVF. Had a fresh cycle and a frozen one where one embryo was transferred each time bc of my compromised uterus. Neither one took.

5th- 2nd fresh IVF cycle, transferred one embryo. Beta was 30 but kept doubling every 2 days. At six weeks there was nothing in the sac. Once it was confirmed that it was non viable, took cytotec to pass the sac.

6th- 9w, frozen transfer cycle. Had seen strong heartbeat several times, was released from RE. First visit at OB, heart had stopped beating the day before. Had a d&c, testing came back Trisomy 21.

The last one was only two weeks ago. I have had every possible test done, everything comes back negative- no clotting or autoimmune factors, etc. OB thinks I may have a genetic predisposition that causes my embryos to be abnormal.

There's nothing I can do except PGD. I have one frozen embryo, but it hasn't been tested, so I may do a fresh cycle next fall/winter and have them thaw that one and test it with the new batch. I am thisclose to just giving away all my baby stuff and calling it a day.

*sigh*

Thanks for the support Lillies!

I've posted here or there about some of it (used to have a different name on here). I try to stay positive and hopeful, and have relied on my faith throughout the last several years. Sometimes I can't even believe all of that actually happened to me.

Re: What caused your miscarriage(s) ?

I had a MC last May at 9w due to a chromosomal abnormality - Turner Syndrome.
