Finishing the basement..must haves and ideas..
I would make sure you have some very good measure in place to prevent moisture/flooding issues...

This. Especially if you are anywhere near the water.
And if you are near the water I'd reconsider investing all that money down there.
As an aside, we are wanting to do upgrades in our home and DH went to the town yesterday to follow up on some stuff and was told that we need yet another permit because of the new boiler we put in down there when Sandy hit.
It never freakin' ends. 
I'm sharing this just so you are mindful, not to be negative.
