Halloween Project - WWYD
DS brought home a 'Three Generations of Halloween' project from school (1st grade)
It is filled out that he is supposed to put pictures and describe his costume, his father's and his grandfather's.
His dad and I split up, and he doesn't have any pictures, I asked DS if I can switch it to me and he got upset saying the girls picked their moms. My dad is drawing me a picture for his because e doesn't have either.
This project is so annoying to me! How do I handle it?

That is such a strange project! I don't think that I'd be able to find a Halloween pic of my DH, and definitely not his dad!
Contact the teacher and see what she says, but I'm SURE doing you (mom) would be fine. But I still hate the project!!!

If he doesn't want to be different than the rest of the boys, I'd do grandfather & great grandfather.
While I think it's awkward given that not every kid has an active dad, there are a lot of projects that entail learning about past generations.

How about uncle? Thats still three generations.. do you have a brother by chance?
His dad wont draw a picture like your dad is doing? Uncles on his dads side you can get a picture of? I guess your dad can also draw a pic of his dad like others suggested.

I don't have a brother, but I have a BIL, ooh, that s a good idea.
His dad is just an annoyance and won't help me at all. I told him to draw one too.
I think it would be a great project, if the pictures were easy to get!

Yea in theory the project sounds great but getting pictures is always a pain. Especially when you have to get it from other people.
In that case cut out dad and I would definitely go with the brother in law.
We do that now, when my BIL is busy with work my DH has filled in for my nieces and vice versa. Ive done it for my sister as well. GL

Is it suppose to be pictures from when they are young? that's crazy!
I would have them dress up now and take a pictures....Costumes could be as simple as a funny hat or put a sheet over their heads for a ghost. Actually now typing that you can have anyone do a ghost and say it's the dad or grandfather lol.

Yeah it is supposed to be when they were 6ish.
My dad drew a picture. My ex is of course being a giant asshat about it...and doesn't understand why I can't use a pic from this year (when he was the guy from BREAKING BAD).
ARGH!

Honestly I think this is a very poorly thought out project. I am very sensitive to the fact that so many of my students don't have their dad in their life. And what if they don't have a grandfather anymore, I read a story about a grampa and half the class started crying thinking about their grandparents. I know that's a little extreme but still it happens.
I would honestly just have the bil draw a pic and I would mention to the teacher that this was a hard project for your son and to please be mindful of this in the future

agree! This is one of the most stupid assignments ever. We have NO pictures of DH as a child in costume and I don't speak to my Dad much, so none of him and DH';s Dad is dead and we have maybe 5 pictures total of him...sounds like a way to make a kid feel bad! I would actually complain.
AND...I don't have any of ME or My mom either for that matter!
Stupid!
