Mild cp and daycare/preschool
This is a bit premature but I was hoping to put my triplets in a 2yo program at either a daycare or a preschool this fall. I was going to register in the winter/spring bc i had heard the 3 day programs fill up fast. tWe just found out that one of our sons has mild spastic diplegia an may or may not be walking by then and will most definitely be in orthotics. What do we do? Would a "regular" preschool take him? Are there preschools for kids with special needs?
I was really taking the diagnosis ok at first but with each passing hour and I am starting to realize how much life has changed.

I am looking into programs for possibly Jan but def in Sept 2014 at that point my twins will be turning 3. We have NOT done anything yet because of my son. I would ask your therapist which schools if any she may be familiar with. I think you can try a Boces or Varitey in Syosset. Although my son wears orthotics he still falls VERY EASILY. He will be going to a regular pre school. I just have to make sure it's very small. I am nervous about play time that he may get trampled. When he falls, if nothing around for him to grab he struggles to get up. I would call around & see what the schools say. If they teach your DC to use a walker, you need to be very careful. When ours was NOT in use, my other son would try & run around room with it. They think it's a toy.

I taught pre-school a few years ago and had a little girl in my class with mild cp. The parents and I were always in communication about any changes, restrictions, etc. and she did fine in my class. If it were my son I would start researching schools and contact the director and explain the situation before taking a tour.

Not sure where you live but my son goes to Alternatives for kids. They have both kids with special needs and kids who don't need any services. So a school like that would be a good option for you. They have two small gyms for OT and PT. The therapist will come and get your son during the school day. They have specific days and times that they will go for say PT.
