Another basement question...
Our basement is already finished, but very outdated. We would like to re-do it. We already have heat, plumbing (and a bathroom) down there. Do you think a reasonable cost to re-do it would be around $5000? We would do the demolishing ourselves....taking down a wall and all the paneling...Some things we will do:
-Replace drop ceiling -put in high hat lighting -new walls/insulation/paint -new floors (probably tile or pergo wood) -replace or re-do cabinets in kitchen -build (or buy) storage cabinets for toys etc -and a biggie- a new washer/dryer preferably stackable....

Re: Another basement question...
Honestly, that's a lot of stuff for $5000, but I think it's possible. The electrician alone, unless you know someone could easily be at least $1000. The floors would be a couple hundred dollars up to a thousand based on your choice and installation. I don't know how big the kitchen area is, but you could probably buy new Ikea cabinets for a couple hundred. The washer and dryer could be another $1000. But if you go in with a specific budget for each hung and work within those confines, I think it's doable.

I think the washer/dryer could put you over but the rest yes, if you are doing it yourselves.

Another basement question...
We have 400 sq ft basement, and we re-did everything new insulation, electrical, re-run of HVAC, tile floor and new ceiling and walls. My husband did most of the work, but we hired someone to do the Sheetrock, spackeling, and sanding. Overall it cost us $3k. We just purchased a new washer and dryer and that was another $2k. So I do think most of it can be done, but not everything. And it depends on your sq footage.

No, for what you are describing you are going to be looking at closer to $15k, maybe $20k.... Even with you doing the demolision yourselves (that's the fun part).

ITA. We had to redo ours from Sandy and with doing demo ourselves it still cost about 20k+. And that was with a "friend" doing walls, spackle etc... We got quotes from contractors all the way up to 60k.

Re: Another basement question...
To be completely honest, i'm not sure you would be able to do all of that for 5k....I would guess atleast 10Kish.... Unless it is a really tiny basement.... cabinets alone, on a cheaper end are probably half that budget...

Re: Another basement question...
I just finished my basement, kind of same as what you described and you are looking at $15K depending on what material you pick.
