Where is your hot water heater!? LOL

We have a crawl space. We are just renting this house but may consider buying it in the future. BUT, the hot water heater is in the kitchen. I have never seen this before. And I don't like it. It's ugly just hanging out in the kitchen, it's not covered up or anything, which I'm sure is a fire hazard. It's an OLD house and was once just a summer cottage so I don't know if that is why it's in the kitchen or do all houses without basements have their hot water heater in the kitchen. I have always had a basement growing up so it's always been down there.

Re: Another if you don't have a basement question

I have rented apartments where I've had a separate water heater and it's been in a closet in the unit.

Plenty of homes don't have basements, look at Levittown,,, all those homes are built on slabs.

I have to admit, I've never seen one hanging around in the open in the middle of a room before though. Usually they're hidden in a closet or boiler room. I think some homes may have them up in an attic crawlspace, but I haven't ever seen that done except on a couple of HGTV shows.

Re: Another if you don't have a basement question

We live in a Levittown house so our boiler is in the kitchen.

It stinks and takes up so much space!

I know that many levitt houses have had the boiler moved into other rooms and even into an enclosed area outside. It gives you so much kitchen/cabinet space back. I'd imagine it's pricey but one day we may have to do it ourselves!!

Re: Another if you don't have a basement question

I'm in a levitt cape (the "regular" house, not the one that you walk into the kitchen.) My boiler is under my stairs, and my hot water heater is non-existent. It's a 5 gallon hold tank with a circulator.

Re: Another if you don't have a basement question

Ours is in a small utility room. It's attached to the house, but there's only one (outside) entrance.

Re: Another if you don't have a basement question

The house we just sold did not have a basement. It was in "the boiler room" in the garage.
