Sanding and staining HW floors with furniture present
We are re finishing some of the floors in our new home and DH wants to also do the LR and DR since we are currently doing the work. They need to be sanded and restained however our dining room set is there. It's empty- we haven't unpacked yet but it's a big heavy set. The estimate we got told us the rooms need to be cleared.
Is this true? Could we move the set to one side and Can they do half the room and come bCk in a week and do the other half and move set to other side? I can't see where in the house we can move this set to in order to have an empty dining room to have the floors re Done!

I wouldn't try it. You would be risking the stain color being different, possibly the sanding level being off...

Re: Sanding and staining HW floors with furniture present
We just had ours done in April. Trust me you want it out. That dust gets everywhere. You want it done at once. We had to clear All the affected rooms as well as the closets we wanted done. We took our dining room set apart.
Our floor guy offered his guys to help if we couldn't get the furniture out or back in, as well

I just moved everything to another room. If you do it in phases the company will charge you more to make the extra trip.

honestly we had furniture everywhere.... we have a ranch so we just put stuff in every unaffected room. My entertainment ctr was in my kitchen, my dining room table and half my china closet were in my playroom, the other half was in my son's room, the tv was in our room, etc you get the point....but all other rooms were "sealed" with plastic, so it wasnt horrible cleaning. But the rooms that were sanded, even the walls had a coating of dust that was hard to get off.

Yes, you have to have all furniture removed from the room. I would break it down and put it away for the time being.

Re: Sanding and staining HW floors with furniture present
all furniture has to be removed. you dont want to do half and then half, the stain may not match and you will probably see overlap where the coats meet in the middle. we are refinishing floors right now and have all of our downstairs furniture in the one room not being refinished. i would love to post a pic but not sure how. the floor guys helped us move it. if that room was being done too we would have put everythign in our garage.
