Flooding

We are in contract on a home in Brightwaters. I know that the street the house is on was flooded (cousin lives two blocks over). How do we go about truly finding out how much damage was caused? What should we do to protect ourselves and make sure everything was cleaned up the right way? I called the realtor and she said she would find out but who's to say they will be truthful?
Thanks!!

Re: Flooding

The first thing that popped into my mind was consulting with your attorney on this one.

Good point.

It's been a few years since we bought, are there generally clauses in contracts that the sale can be terminated due to an event like this?

That's why I suggested speaking with the attorney too.

Thanks everyone. I spoke with the home owner who was honest and said just the back side of the backyard and the detached garage in the backyard flooded. I believe she is being truthful.
