Hi Ladies,

I was curious to see if anyone else had this on the boards right now. If so, are you under a high risk OB? I started my Lovenox and I'll be following up with my hematologist but was curious to see what everyone else's "plans" were.

Also.. What prenatals are you taking? My OB said I can take anything over the counter but from what I'm reading of the amount of vitamins I need, most don't add up. Please let me know!

TIA!!

I am under the care of a high risk but it's for a different issue. As far as vitamins, my OB prescribes them. I think they are called prenatal plus.

I'm on lovenox and take OTC natures way prenatals. I see a high risk ob and a perinatologist. (Kofinas)

Re: MTHFR...

I have a different thrombophilia issue, similar to MTHFR. I'm on Lovenox and baby aspirin. I'm seeing a regular OB but he's sending me to a perinatologist for a consult at 16 weeks and having that doctor do my 20 week anatomy scan so we get the best, most detailed results. He's also seeing me every 2 weeks instead of 4, and doing a sonogram at every visit to make sure that there's no clotting that's restricting fetal growth.

He suggested I see a hematologist after this pregnancy to get further information about how this condition will affect my "real life" (needing Lovenox before long plane trips, not being able to use BC pills again, etc.). But as far as the pregnancy is concerned, he wants to monitor it himself and with the perinatologist.

Thank you for your responses! My doctor only mentioned monitoring growth every week starting at 28 weeks.. When I see her this week I'll discuss other options and see what she says. I'll also discuss with my hematologist this week and see what his thoughts are. I really trust his judgement so I'm hoping he can calm some of my fears too!

Re: MTHFR...

I'm compound hetero MTHFR. I had two previous miscarriages so was obviously concerned that this was the cause. It was tough b/c my OB still thought that the MTHFR was a non issue b/c it was so common. I decided to start taking the Optimal Prenatal from SeekingHealth.com. I got pregnant a third time and so far, so good. I'm 16 weeks and everything seems healthy. Is it b/c of the prenatals or were the previous miscarriages just due to chromosomal abnormalities or some other natural causes? I guess I'll never know, but I'm definitely going to keep taking these prenatals. Only down side is that there are 8 pills a day, but I guess you do what you gotta do. Sometimes I'll have the Optimal Prenatal Powder in a smoothie instead, you just have that once/day and it gives me a break from the 8 pills. Good luck!!

i'm not high risk, but I'm taking citranatal- my dr. said not to buy the OTC ones because alot of them don't have DHA in them. I've got like 5 weeks worth of samples, and then i will end up going with something else with DHA because the citranatal prescription is too pricey

I was tested for it prior to pregnancy as I had a family history and my family member's hematologist suggested it. After testing positive, I saw a hematologist. He said without a personal or familial history of any MTHR related issues I didn't need to do anything special and would be considered normal risk. He didn't even feel I should have been tested without a reason.

Thanks for the responses. I have a history of DVT so my doctors both felt Lovenox was the best choice for me. I'll continue with everything the way it is and if any concerns come up I'll discuss with my OB seeing a periontologist.

I am Homogeneous for MTHFR, not preg yet. I was told to take Folgar or the brand all of which is not covered.

instead I take methylcobalamin, Methyl Folate (bc with MTHFR) your body cannot break down the B vit or folate. to round it out as a prenatal I add vit D 1,000, fish oil DHA and calcium, I take tums
