Playstation or XBox
Is one more preferred than the other? If you have both which do you prefer for kids? My DS likes Minecraft and Skylanders if that helps. I'm clueless about this stuff and just looking for recommendation. I also prefer wireless remotes.

I have a son in 2nd grade. I say Xbox because more about f the boys have it and a lot also have Xbox live so they can play games like Minecraft together.

I would get what the local friends are getting. There are a lot more PS4s being sold than X-boxes, but it doesn't matter about national numbers if everyone in his school has a different machine.
Most games are across both platforms, so games like Minecraft and Skylanders can be played on anything. There are exclusive games to one system or the other.
Personally, I think the PS4 is a much better designed system.
All of the systems have wireless remotes.
Also look into the Wii U. That is more family and kid focused. All of the Mario games are for the Wii systems (and Skylanders plays on it too).

Definitely check with what the kids in the area are using. By me everyone has an Xbox and by my nephews they all play WiiU.

I agree see what people around you have. My sons and most their friends have xbox....except most have the older xbox and we got the newer one and they only have a few friends to play against.

THis is true too! my son originally wanted the Xbox one, but after learning that you couldnt play xbox live unless you both have the same system, he changed his mind and asked for the xbox 360 so he could play with his friend who most have the 360

... and an Xbox 360 (or PS3) is a LOT cheaper than the current gen boxes....

I'm a little late to this but there are a few factors:
1. online gaming. If your child likes to game on line then he should have the same system as his friends or they will not be able to play together.
2. exclusive games. If you have a kid who loves Halo (and are old enough to play it) you can only play it on the xbox. Same goes for the naughty dog games on ps4.
Personally I have a PS4. My kids (5 and almost 7) play lego marvel, lego batman, just dance, and we just got disney infinity marvel (basically disney's version of skylanders).
