Anyone have a successful version? (flipping a breech baby)

My baby is breech and in 2 weeks my Dr wants to schedule me for a version where she attempts to flip the baby. I've read it can be painful and its not a sure thing that the baby will flip. Just curious if anyone has had this procedure attempted?

I haven't but I have also heard its painful. If you are open to an alternative, I would quickly check your neighborhood for a chiropractor that deals with pediatrics and prenatal. There is a very highly regarded chiropractic method (the Webber method) that turns breech babies at a pretty successful rate - with no pain. you can also check out spinningbabies.com for movements you can safely do at home.

Anyone have a successful version? (flipping a breech baby)

i had it done with my first born,6 years ago. i wouldn't say it was painful, i'd say uncomfortable at times.
it was done in a hospital, you are monitored, and the dr used a ultrasound as a guide.
the dr performing the procedure said that he only attempts to do it 3 times (within a single session), if he cant turn the baby, that is it.
luckily, all went well and it was a success.

Anyone have a successful version? (flipping a breech baby)

Someone here had it done within the last year and it was successful. Check the birth story board.

I have a breech and I've read a few ways to help the baby turn on it's own.

The only thing I've tried was a heating pad on low at the base of my uterus and a bag of frozen peas at the top. The idea is to coax the baby to go towards the warmth and away from the cold. Not sure if it worked, I guess I'll find out at my next appointment.

Other things I've read are doing Downward Facing Dog yoga position

The last resort for me will be this position or pose called The Tilt" It's basically a reverse plank and you have to do this for 10-15mins 3x's a day. Im like yeah no....

My friend used a bag of frozen peas on her belly (by his head) and her LO turned.

I had a breech baby. My doctor felt a version is too risky and he will not do them. My baby never flipped despite trying several of the techniques above. He came out frank breech with his feet by his head and they said there was no way he could have been successfully flipped.

I had a breech baby. I think he was breech most of my pregnancy. My doctor suggested a version, but wasn't very keen on it. Towards the end, my fluid was on the lower side, and in that case, chances of a successful version or the baby flipping on its on are very slim. I ended up having a planned c-section at 39 weeks. But the baby can turn at any time. My doctor said he had a c-section planned for a breech and when they did the sonogram right before the baby had turn and they sent the woman home! I should add I also went to the chiropractor twice weekly from 32 weeks on for Webster technique. I had heard good things but did not work for me.

Babies can turn at any time, but some babies just aren't meant to turn. DS had the cord wrapped around his neck 3 times. I felt him try to turn a lot. He'd get a quarter of the way around and always come back to breech. When he was born via c -section the OB said she got him out just in the nick of time. I am so thankful I never considered a version. I felt that if he didn't turn on his own, there was a reason. For me and my DS, a version would have risked his life.

Re: Anyone have a successful version? (flipping a breech baby)

I had it done with my second. It did hurt and was painful but after already child birth with my son before her, it was nothing in comparison. Unfortunately, she did not budge with the version and my OB was literally sweating and shaking as he tried to flip her.

I did not acupuncture and moxibustion a week later and she flipped with no problem on her own. I highly recommend that route. If you need a recommendation, I would be more than happy to share my acupuncturist. I had her a week later vaginally and with no problem.

Good luck!

ETA: When she was born she was tangled and wrapped in her cord. It was over her shoulders, her torso and neck. The midwife was like "I've never seen anything like this." I believe that was the reason she never turned breech until the end.

Re: Anyone have a successful version? (flipping a breech baby)

i copied this from my birth story:

At 37w1d I had an external version performed on my breech baby at NSUH. It was quick and while painful so quick it didn't matter. The fact that I had had a successful vaginal birth previously to a large baby made me a
Good candidate. I am so happy we decided to have the ECV. The baby was monitored via sono before, during and after and I felt she was safe the entire time.

feel free to pM me with questions
