Choosing a pediatrician
Once I've chosen a pediatrician, is there anything I need to do BEFORE the babies arrive? My dr. told me to just have the info in my hospital bag because they will ask me when they are born. Do I have to call the pediatrician's office or just when I have to make an appt. for their first visit?

Re: Choosing a pediatrician
I chose one and called them to tell them I was choosing them and they told me that they didn't need any info from me, just tell the hospital when I was in L&D who the ped was and the hospital would call their office after the baby was born to let them know. Then he came by to see her the next morning during rounds. Super easy.

If your chosen ped is not affiliated with the hospital you deliver at they will want to see the babies the day after they are discharged. We actually hadn't even chosen a ped when I was induced and had to make a quick split-second decision (and we did based on recommendations here and we LOVE our ped). They weren't affiliated with Cohens/LIJ so we had to bring DS in the day after he was released from NICU, which we would have had to do even if he wasn't in the NICU and was just in with us or the nursery. But we just called the day before and said we were told DS was being DX tomorrow (a wednesday) and booked for Thursday.

Choosing a pediatrician
I chose my ped based on recommendations. All I did was tell the hospital upon admission that we were using them. The practice sends a ped to the hospital every day so all they did was see that we were using them and they came in to check DD. Then after we got discharged, we called and made an appointment. No paperwork or prior notice was needed at all. So easy.

Oh! Great! Thanks for that info. I just checked and they are affiliated with LIJ which is where I'm delivering (Katz)

So happy to hear that this is a rather easy process! Thanks so much!

Choosing a pediatrician
I just called and made sure they were taking on new patients. They offered me to come in and interview but warned me Insurance doesn't always cover this.
Have the pediatrician info with your license and insurance card, not in your overnight bag. I had to give them this info during my c-section prep. I had it in my phone and had my phone with me.

And if the ped you chose is affiliated with the hospital you are delivering at, they will very likely know who he is. I remember saying, Dr Eisenberg. And they were like oh yes, of course. They all know him from being there almost daily. They only needed his name. Nothing else.

Choosing a pediatrician
It was really easy. Our pediatrician was not affiliated with North Shore where I delivered. When I met with the office that I decided to go with they told me to call them from the hospital and make an appointment for the day after we were discharged. There was no issue whatsoever!

my ped was affilated with my hospital.. i just told the hospital who my ped was, and one of the doctors from the group came and checked up on DS. After I was discharged I had to call to make an appt for DS to go in to see them.
