Allergic reaction to earrings?

I've worn the same studs for years. In January I thought I had a cut on the back of my left ear since it became infected. I thought it healed so put my earrings back in and since then I've had to keep them out. How after 25 years am I having a reaction? What options do I have? I thought the earrings I was wearing were 14kt but I am not 100%. I wear other jewelry and don't have any issues.

I can't wear studs b/c they infect my ears. I can only wear hoops. They're the only earring type that doesn't give me a reaction. I usually wear sterling silver.

I'm having the same problem with a pair of 14k diamond hoops I got at Fortunoff over 10 years ago. I wore them all the time and now all of a sudden it irritates my left ear and I can't keep it in. I tried cleaning the earring but it doesn't make a difference. I can wear all my other earrings (real and fake) without issues, it's just this one pair that doesn't work for me anymore. I don't get it and it makes me sad cause they're really nice earrings.

I get this off and on with my solid gold studies. Dermatologist said its contact dermatitis and gives me a cream to put on, usually takes a month to clear up.

My ears are much more sensitive now that I have had kids, even my engagement and wedding bands irritated my skin for a while. I only wear 14k gold (usually white gold) and that helps but I still have to give my ears a break once in a while. I use bacitracin and don't wear earrings for a few days and that seems to help.

I have gone weeks to months without earrings and I will put these back in and bam. I'm so annoyed, came out of nowhere. I guess I will have to have the diamonds put in another set of studs.
