Converting to Gas
We are considering converting from oil to gas. Our oil burner and hot water heater are both over 30 yrs old. We live on a street where we won't have to pay for the gas loan(surrounded by gas on all sides. ) Financially it seems to make sense. We get all new equipment and a cheaper bill per month. Even with financing the equipment we will still pay less per month than with oil. However, I'm apprehensive bc of gas being dangerous ( you hear of those crazy things with houses blowing up etc) The companies that have come to do estimates assure me it is perfectly safe. Am I just being crazy? What have your experiences been if you converted? We are leaning towards going with Powersmith. Had estimated from burner king and universe as well. Thanks!

Converting to Gas
my mother is so paranoid about gas but not me. if it's done right there should be no problem. I converted last year using Universe. I financed it through them. so far no problems! got 0% financing for 5 years.

Re: Converting to Gas
We used Sal Manzo Plumbing to convert our original oil heater to a new combi unit (don't have space for a hot water tank so we got a tankless, on demand unit)
VERY happy with Sal & his responsiveness.
This is the first time that we don't have to worry about getting scalded from the oil hot water & we've had consistently hot showers everyday since install :)

Converting to Gas
Think of the amount of houses on Long Island alone... How many do you hear blowing up in any given year?? Maybe 1?? If it's done properly it's perfectly safe.

Converting to Gas
I grew up and always lived in houses that had gas. Never once occurred to me that it wasn't safe. When DH and I bought our current house it had oil -I hated it and couldn't wait to convert, which we did 3 years ago. Never had a problem
