assisted hatching?
so what do you know about assisted hatching with a frozen cycle? is it necessary? GHI only covers assisted hatching if you are over 38 and meet certain other criteria. I am 35 so definitely not going to be approved for that.
if you had to pay out of pocket for AH how much did you pay? did anyone choose not to do AH?
thanks ladies!

Re: assisted hatching?
RMA i believe does it as standard protocol. or so the embryologist told me. It was all included in whatever they billed for the cycle.
the outer shell of the egg gets harder as you get older and the laser assisted hatching is supposed to help with that. Its probably beneficial if you're over 35.

Re: assisted hatching?
I was 32 and 33 with both IVFs and my offices did assisted hatching as protocol bc as the pp mentioned, the outer layer gets thicker the older you get. GHI didn't cover it for me either but it wasn't too expensive from what I remrmber.

Same with me. It was part of the "package" I guess you can say. I paid out of pocket so this was all built into it.

Re: assisted hatching?
thank you, I'm still waiting for AF to start so I can go in for Day3 blood/sono then the office puts in the request to the insurance company. I wont know for sure how much I have to pay for AH until after.

Re: assisted hatching?
Assisted hatching is usually not covered by insurance unless you are a certain age. My RE mentioned that she could fight the insurance company to allow it if denied, but doesn't do that until a couple has 3 failed IVF cycles. With assisted hatching they will take a fertilized embryo and basically puts a hole around the hard shell. This will help with implantation.
The doctor didn't tell me the cost but she didn't make it seem like it was that significant.

Re: assisted hatching?
I had assisted hatching done with my frozen cycles. It was standard at RS of NY with frozen cycles. They didn't do it at North Shore unless you paid extra for it. I had no luck at North Shore but helped me at RS of NY (one of the factors).
