TV during recess
Does your school show movies to the students if they do not go outside for recess?

Re: TV during recess
Nope. If it's bad weather they play in their classroom. DS tells me they color, played class games like Seven Up, Bingo, Uno, etc.

TV during recess
Sometimes. DS has mentioned watching movies (recently it was a Muppet movie) or playing games.

Re: TV during recess
No but I fondly remember every time we had a sub, we got to watch a movie in school- that was awesome! It was rare that we had a sub but still awesome when it happened. Anyway, my DC school has indoor recess in bad weather.
Is a movie being shown everytime they stay indoors?

TV during recess
I don't think there is enough time to show a movie or even a tv show at recess. They only get like 20 minutes. Indoor recess is coloring, board games, stuff like that. Our school also has a game room the classes can sign up for that has a foozball table, basketball games, xbox (for the just dance game) and stuff like that.

No. And I'll be honest, I would have a big problem with it if they did.
If you add up the cold days plus the rainy days, that's a ton of screen time. If physical activity is limited bc of weather, at least the kids should be engaged with each other.

When I was a kid we always had movies on rainy days. My DD's school just lets the kids play games in the classroom.

TV during recess
Never. No way they could. Setting it up and getting that many kids all organized would be mayhem. We have two indoor gyms. If it rains or is bad weather they go in there.
They watch a movie on early release days between the time they 'leave' and the time normal aftercare starts. You'd think they hit the lottery! Even then it's elective. They have the movie in the library but the computer lab, math lab, lego lab and cafeteria are still open. Some kids will watch the movie of course, but not all. AJ won't if she's not really into it. Right now Math Lab is her favorite place to play. She likes the games in there.
All rooms have the ability to be have the same movie or video streamed at the same time, but the school policy is not to watch movies anywhere but the library. Because it's the quiet place

Re: TV during recess
No They only get a movie as a reward sometimes. Like if they fill up their jar with pom poms for good deeds, they earn pajama day and a movie on a Friday. Only a few times a year

Re: TV during recess
Nope...we aren't allowed to...if we want to, we need to submit a lesson plan. My kids alternate with a bunch of activities...sometimes they play whole class games, sometimes they color and do crafts, sometimes they play games, do puzzles, and do legos in small groups...once a week my monitor brings them to the computer lab and they can play educational games.
Somehow PE is allowed to show movies when they are forced out of the gym due to other activities...not even movement videos, but full length movies that they only see small parts of.

Re: TV during recess
NYC schools do. Ours is a "better" one so they try not to but due to limited resources they resort to a movie in the auditorium not necessarily TV.

Re: TV during recess
yes. When they can't go outside they go to the auditorium to watch a movie (unless they get a club to do something else like gym, library, etc).

Re: TV during recess
In some schools, like mine, theres often no better choice. No teacher wants their kids to lose the ONLY chance they have all day to blow off steam and have unstructured time with their friends, but sometimes teachers need to use their classrooms.
Our school is so crowded that there is nowhere for the kids to go during indoor recess, except the classroom or the auditorium. I have my aide take my class to our room on movie days because I am flexible and can work anywhere (like the cafeteria or the principal's conference room, if it's unoccupied) if I have school work to do on my lunch.
Some teachers have club meetings or workshops and can't always give up their rooms for their kids to play during recess, so those children must go to the auditorium on movie days.
Trust me, it's sometimes a no win situation.

Yes, and it totally annoys me! It happened more when my son was in Kindergarten-which just baffled me because Kindergarteners are such social creatures and their one social time during the day is taken away to sit quietly and watch a movie! I complained but nothing was done.
Now my son is in second grade and I have only heard of a few times that they watched movies. However, not that long ago I found out they were not allowed to SPEAK during lunch! If they did speak that got sent to, what the kids nicknamed, the lonely table. I was livid. i contacted the teacher, she spoke with the principal. It seems to have gotten better and they are now allowed to speak in "restaurant voices".
I am a teacher and it just makes me so sad that this is what school has become.

TV during recess
My son does in K and seems to occasionally. They don't do it every day but, if they have a long spell, they watch a show (PBS Kids) on the Smartboard.
