No Recess

I just found out from my son's teacher that he is not allowed outside for recess due to elopement issues. He is 5 and in kindergarten. I am just finding this out today and have no idea how long it has been going on. He has an IEP. Should I have been notified about this sooner?

That does not sound right to me at all. I would request CSE meeting, and ask for 1:1 aid.

I would be up at school immediately asking to remedy the situation. It is there job to keep him safe either by having a 1:1 aide or have an enclosed play area for the kids to use. What is his doing instead of recess? Is he sitting alone or are there other kids with him. I would not wait for a CSE, I'd be up at school today.

This was mentioned to me during a call with his teacher. I got the impression she thought I knew this was happening. And in the moment that I was speaking to her, I was so overwhelmed with other information, it did not really hit me until I hung up the phone. I emailed the teacher, psych, principal and social worker. I received a response from the psych but it was vague and did not pinpoint how long this has been going on. We are currently scheduled to have a committee meeting on the 5th to request a 1:1 aide for him and make other changes. He has not been having a good start to kindergarten at all. In fact, he has told me that he hates kindergarten and wants to go back to DDI. My belief is that when he is not allowed outside he brought to the classroom.
