We have a wide-line cape with a second floor attic/loft space upstairs. We don't plan on dormering, as this will not be a forever home. However, we are looking into finishing our upstairs into 1 big bedroom, or 2 small bedrooms. Has anyone done this without dormering or bumping out the roof at all? If anyone can share their experience/approx price paid that would be so so helpful

We have a somewhat weirdly laid out cape. No dormers. We have the living space on the right side with vaulted ceilings. Two bedrooms in the left side with one bedroom and a half bath over that on the second floor. We actually just started construction over the middle of the living space to add another small bedroom. We may eventually extend it and dormer but for now we're not. DH is doing the work so I can't comment on cost.

I have sort of what you're describing. My second floor is finished. The bathroom is dormered but the bedrooms are not. We have a full bath and 2 bedrooms upstairs. They're actually our bedrooms, I use the first floor bedrooms as the formal dining room and guest room. The only thing that's a little annoying is I had to caddy corner our bed and DD's crib but it looks fine and the rooms are large enough that the lost space isn't really needed anyway.

This is how it was when we moved in so I have no idea what it cost. We will never dormer either, we're not staying here more than a few years.

I have a boxy cape. It was 1 br, a loft, and a bathroom upstairs with closet space in the eaves. I just blew the wall out btw the br and the loft, gutted the bathroom, and redid the closets. Cost around 15k.
