When picking a name stops being fun - vent ***UPDATE!!!!***
I know I have plenty of time left (I'm 10 weeks along) to choose a name but I'm seriously starting to get worried.
We have a boy name set but my husband and I can NOT find even one girls name that we both like. Not even one to put in the "maybe" column.
Now it's gotten to the point that I stopped even looking at names because I'm starting to hate every name I see. Nothing is jumping out at me.
I'm going to back away from it for a while and hope going back with fresh eyes maybe in the end of the second trimester will help but gee wiz, it wasn't this hard the first time around!
UPDATE*** Apparently the key to finding a name is posting in frustration on Lifamilies because on my lunch break just now a family name hit me like a lightning bolt and my husband loves it too. FINALLY, lol.

I was the same way. Had a bunch of boys names I liked, but nothing I liked for a girl. The one name we both liked we couldn't pick because it was too similar to my niece's name. I printed a list of 1000 top baby names (i think it was off the social security website) and went through the list. I picked one we sort of liked but weren't sure and then we just decided to go with it.

Are you finding out the sex? If you are I wouldn't start to seriously consider anything until then. You may very well have a boy and not have to think about it. Why waste energy unnecessarily, kwim?

This is really interesting to me because I know in my gut this is what will end up happening.
Did the name grow on you as your daughter got older?

We are NOT finding out the sex, although our inability to find any girl's names makes it more tempting to know.

I can totally relate. My son's name took forever to choose. Now I'm pregnant with our second, and we had girl names all picked out, but then found out it is a boy. We're at a complete loss, because we already considered a million boy names last time. Any names that we passed over last time now feel second rate. I love my son's name, so now I feel pressure to come up with another name I like as much, but nothing feels right.

Yes! She will be 2 in June. I feel her name suits her.
ETA we also found out gender before she was born so knew we HAD to pick out a girls name.

Re: When picking a name stops being fun - vent
It took us a long time to find a girl's name we both liked. We would sit together and I'd just rattle off name after name and he'd shoot them down. We had decided on one and then changed our minds. We did this on and off until about 16/18 weeks until we found one we liked. Just let it go for now and you'll find something you both like. Even if you have to wait until she (if it's a she!) is born!

When picking a name stops being fun - vent
When I was pregnant with my first, we couldn't come up with a girl's name. We were team green. One of the sonogram photos my on sent us home with had a shot of a penis. I was so upset that he'd ruined things for us. So much so, that I switched to another doctor. Flash to delivery. Out comes baby and turns out it's a girl (clearly whatever we saw was not a penis). We had stopped discussing girl names. Our DD didn't have a name until they were trying to discharge me and said her birth certificate would say GIRL Lastname if we didn't choose something. We gave her a name we'd discussed early on. I can't imagine her having any other name.

Wow that is a crazy story!
I'm surprised about the birth certificate thing. I was able to go home from the hospital with my baby unnamed. They just said call them with a name asap, which we did about a week later! We didn't have a problem with his birth certificate.

Yes, I know at my hospital you could have called them after you were discharged to change the name or add it if you didn't have one yet- they said they don't submit the forms to the state for a week or so, so you had up until they were submitting the forms to the state to name the baby officially

Don't get me started on our birth certificate experience at the hospital where I delivered DD. There was a lot that happened with the birth certificate later. I refused to deliver there again. With my second baby, I changed doctors and delivered at a hospital that was the Ritz Carlton compared to my first experience.

That's unfortunate! I can't imagine what the issue could have been with the birth certificate. It seemed so straightforward at my hospital (Huntington).

OMG! You must have died!
Back in 1985 my mom's OB told her I was a boy. They had no girls name picked out. I came out and my dad's first instinct was "oh sh!t, it's a girl."
They pulled it together before they left the hospital, though, and I've been the lucky owner of one of the most basic b!tch names of the 80's ever since.

This is literally the best thing I've ever read and EXACTLY the reason why I feel picking a girls name is so hard!!!

We had a boy's name picked out at 10 weeks, no problem. We struggled with a girl's name, like we were on the way to the hospital and still discussing if we really wanted to use that name. LOL We had a girl and named her what we discussed. It's all good!
