Oh, my mom would also make this things she called number 5s. They were grilled cheese sandwiches and then she would make another layer with bacon.
I have no idea why they were called number 5s.
They were so good! When I last went home, we went out for grilled cheese. I haven’t had that in years. It was great to have it with her.

Off the top of my head- beef stroganoff which I never have anymore because DH refuses to eat it. I think my sis and I are the only ones in the world who like it bc our mom made it (even my dad doesn’t like it). And she used to call them hole in ones (the egg in the middle of the bread) which I think no one else but her called them that. Lol. I think they are more commonly referred to as egg in a basket. I remember first hearing it as a teen and I was like that’s not what they’re called . I miss my mom (6 years since she passed).

What did mom make as a kid that you loved....
-Potato pancakes
-Stuffed cabbage
-this German chocolate cake with a very thin layer of icing that had like a pot of coffee in it - don't know the actual name - so insanely good
- good old BLTs with very crispy bacon and lots of mayo

Thanks. I actually told my sister next time she comes into town (she lives on the west coast), I will make it and we will have it. She is sooo excited!

Ah, someone after my own heart (minus the cake; I don’t like sweets anymore)! You even said lots of mayo. Do you have Eastern European roots? I love potato pancakes and stuffed cabbage.
My mom didn’t make that but my Polish grandma did.
