Re: Kindergarten and HW
Posted by SecretTTCer
My daughter had the same experience in kindergarten. The homework in terms of quality and quantity was ridiculous. I was very vocal about it. I went to the principals, complained to parents, spoke at school board meetings, put it on agendas at committee meetings. Finally, after three years, they abolished all homework except reading for my elementary school's kindergarten. The following year, the two other elementary schools in the district did the same. My daughter never benefited by the change in policy, but I know I helped other children. It was a LONG battle, but one that is supported by research. There is really no research that supports elementary school homework. In high school, the connection between homework and achievement is stronger but still very weak.
Wow good for you! That's great that you fought for the other kids in the district like that and that it worked!
I'm so over the American education system to be honest. It just sucks.
