Invite the whole class?

DD started pre-k in a class with all new kids. When I ask her who she plays with she says no one. She is always alone when I pick her up. I broached the subject of her birthday and she rattled off all these kids from her class, which is surprising since she’s never mentioned any of them.

Do I invite these kids? We would be inviting kids from other classes at the same school.

I’d only invite kids that she actually plays with (from the other classes).

If you feel like YOU want to meet the kids/parents in her class, then invite them. Otherwise, just invite a few kids that you're sure she's friends with. In pre-K, they're so young that they won't even remember the kids from this birthday when they're in a different school next year in kindergarten.

Pre-K is still a big time for independent play. I wouldn't assume she is playing alone all day, it's just her perception. My Pre-Ker is the same some days.

I would invite the entire class if these are children she will be staying with as she enters K. If this is her first and last year with them, then no reason to feel obligated to invite the entire class.

She won’t be in kindergarten with these kids.

I was all for not inviting until I mentioned it to my mom and she went ballistic that I can’t exclude children, even went so far as offering to pay (which wasn’t even the point). That’s when I thought I was maybe being a jerk.

I think it’s a nice gesture to invite the whole class if you can swing it.

FWIW, when DS was in daycare, he got invited to a bunch of parties of his classmates. DD is in daycare now and hardly gets invited to her classmates. There's no right or wrong. You do what you want.

For DS 1 - we invited the whole class when he was in Pre-K since he was invited (and went) to so many parties. For DS 2 - we picked his friends since he wanted a smaller party (he isn't much of a party guy). There's no right or wrong way.

PreK was always all kids. Just boys or just girls.
