So just thought I would throw a little update out there...I can not even believe I am saying this but I have now graduated to Couch to 10K. AND I signed up for my first 5k. Just add that to the list of strange occurrences in 2020! LOL
Quick questions:
What are good running shorts? What about socks? I feel like my socks are bunching up at the front/bottom of my foot but when I take my shoe off, they are fine. It's a very weird sensation.
Way to go!
For shorts I always go back to Nike Tempo shorts - always reliable for me and can find sales.
For the socks are you sure your shoes aren't too narrow or small? Your shoes may be rubbing on the seams?
My sneakers feel great actually! I couldn't believe the difference the proper pair of sneakers made! The rubbing is in a weird spot. It's like the bottom of the ball of my foot. It felt like my socks were bunching so I took my sneaker off and it was fine. It was about 2.5 miles into my run. I will try different socks and see how it goes.
Do you guys suggest thicker or thinner socks?

Congratulations! That’s awesome!
As for the sock thing, I had that same sensation for years, whenever I would run, do Zumba, almost any type of exercise. Felt like my socks were bunched up where my toes meet the ball of my foot, but they weren’t. I tried all different kinds of socks, thinking that was the problem. For a long time it was annoying, but then it got worse and became very painful. I wound up seeing a podiatrist. Turns out it is something called Morton’s Neuroma. (I was shocked to find out it was a “real” thing lol). The podiatrist made custom orthotics for me, but also gave me stretching exercises for my feet. The exercises did the trick. I never used the orthotics and the pain is gone

C25K success stories?
How does C25K work? I'm not a fan of running but maybe worth a shot. What if you can't run, can you fast walk?

That's interesting. I'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for sharing that!

I downloaded C25K app. The logo is orange. It's 3 days a week for 8 weeks. I would put on my music and it talks over the music. I hated running. Never was into it. When I started, I was DYING during the 30 second interval I was supposed to run. It's amazing how it trains you for endurance. Now I'm running 28 minutes straight with no huffing and puffing. I mean, the humidity sucks but I'm fine. And for reference, I am 42, probably 40 lbs overweight and have never run before in my life. If I can do it, trust me, you can do it. I actually like running now. While I'm running, its very mental and I'm complaining to myself about how much I hate it but then I'm always excited for my next run. It's crazy.

I never did C25K but I probably should have lol. It took me a long time to build up to being able to run 30 minutes straight. Then last October I ran most of the Brooklyn half and I'm the same age as this poster (or will be this year.)
I think there is a "hump" somewhere that every runner has to get past. Once you get over it it becomes a lot more fun.
Good luck and have fun!

I used to hate running with passion as well! When I started doing Couch to 5K, it made me hate it less. I didn’t love it but at least I didn’t hate it anymore lol!!! I did love how it made me feel at the end of the 30 min, so accomplished! I need to start running again. What time do u think it’s best to do it? I’ve been meaning to run early mornings but I’m so not a morning person and I’ve been now postponing it for too long! Lol!

I can't go early because I have nobody to watch the kids so I usually go around 8-8:30 while it's still not totally dark. I will also change the days if I know one day will be really hot and the next day is better.

I downloaded the app you've inspired me!!
Did you lose any weight since starting to run- I need to lose about 20 pounds and with gyms being closed I was hoping this could help me out!
Great job FirstMate!!!

Thanks! I don't think anyone has ever been inspired by me before so I'm very flattered! LOL To answer your question, no. Not a single freaking pound. But I haven't been on top of my diet like I should be. I also think there is something hormonal happening with me that I can't drop weight. I did South Beach phase 1 last month and I lost 3 lbs during that phase. Everyone else drops like 10 so that annoyed me. Then I added Intermittent fasting AND a supplement that acts as an appetite suppressant and I'm still not losing weight so don't go by me. Apparently my body likes having my knees and hips haul my chubby ass all around the neighborhood.

C25K success stories?
I am starting C25K this weekend. Just downloaded the app. Any tips? Does it go through stretching? It also tells you which days you are supposed to rest, right?

It does not go through stretching. Definitely stretch before and after your run. I also recommend doing knee circles which help to stretch your knees a bit. There is a 5 minute brisk walking warm-up and then you start running. You run 3 days/week. Your choice as to when to run. I try to run every two days when I was starting the app.
I literally just re-started this app this past week. I have not run consistently at all the last few years due to injuries that were not running related. I'm hoping this will get me a little more motivated.

Re: C25K success stories?
Make a good playlist! That will keep you going. Or sometimes I would even listen to podcasts.
And yes it gives you a schedule to follow. It's 3 days a week! Good luck!
