Day 2 of CIO/Ferber....need success stories and what you did.
So I'm trying CIO. Although last night I only lasted an hour.
How did you handle this? What did you do?
I'm not liking this AT ALL, but I don't know what else to do.
DS is 6 months.

We did it at 5 months, and I think it took 4 nights. Eleven months later, DD still has the same sleep schedule - 12.5 hours/night!
The first night, I gave us a time limit (although I forget what it was), and it only took 37 minutes total. Each night, it took less time.
It's really hard to listen to your little one cry, but rest assured, she NEVER held it against us - we were always greeted with smiles the next morning when she had to cry herself to sleep. You should do something to distract yourself. I played games & DH was on Facebook when we were doing it, it definitely makes it easier.
Hang in there! It definitely works, and you'll have a great sleeper on your hands when it's all said and done.

do you have that book, solve your childs sleep problems? this helped us immeasurabley. lots of little details to get them to where they need to be to fall asleep on their own, one if which is putting them down reeeeally sleepy, and lots of reassurance. routine is key too.

Ferber didn't work for us.. He just got more hysterical and I couldn't take it. So we just did straight CIO. It honestly sounds like you are on the right track. It took Liam about 3-4 nights and each night was drastically less than the first.

Awww... good luck!
Ferber worked for us with 5 minute intervals... but it took a few days. We watched TV during the intervals. Needed a distraction.
It's hard to hear them cry!
Now, he stops his cranky sleepy cries immediately when put in crib.

First did you start with Summer's cio post? This helped me a lot when we did it!!! CIO post
For us it took 5 or 6 nights but got progressively shorter... Also DH was the WORST and couldn't hack it, I sent him out to the bar with his friends a few of those nights
WHen the crying was worst I'd wash the dishes or fold laundry, I needed a distraction!!!

THIS!!!
We did CIO at 7 months and it's been a godsend every since. DS is 2.5 now and still sttn and takes a 2 hour nap.
The trick is exactly what Summer said - if they calm down to restart the timer. Have something to do when they're crying (watch a movie, go online, anything). I turned the sound off on our video monitor but I could still see him.
I should mention that I did it with my mom staying over. She kept me calm and supported me when I had those "I gotta go get him" moments. DH couldn't handle it so I scheduled it around a business trip he had. Make sure your DH is onboard and tell him you need him to keep you strong! Listening to your LO cry is so hard - but it DOES get easier each night and it's SOOO worth it. OMG I can't stress how wonderful it is when they finally sleep!!!
Good luck!!

wow, I couldn't last 1 hour. I would try it for like 4 minutes and give up.
One night, I decided I was really going to do it, I gave the monitor with volume turned off to DH and said "I'm taking a shower, if he's still at it when I'm done, I don't know what I'm gong to do."
I took a long shower, and was told when I got out, he went at it for 15 minutes before he fell asleep. Next night did the same thing, he was out in 10. Next night 5. From then on, he's been perfect.

We just did the CIO with dd who is 13 months. We had no issues with her at nighttime..she is a great sleeper, but she would want to be rocked everynight. I hated every minute of it too. The first night was horrible...she cried for 30 minutes straight. Second night 15 minutes. It got better every night and now she rolls onto her side and goes to bed..not a peep! GL

This is pretty much how we did it. DS was 1 year when we started. I got tired of the waking in the middle of the nite wanting to be held, rocked, having to sleep on the couch with him laying on me; having to rock him to death for naps. SO one nite DH brought him up after his bottle and he cried for probably a good 20 min; i went in, layed him back down, rubbed his back; I NEVER PICKED HIM UP. I left the room. He cried again for another 10 min and then there was silence.
and within a few days, he didn't cry after his bottle and being put down and sleeps 11-12 hrs now straight. (unless he's teething..which will wake him during the nite.)
Then i started it for naps and do the 1 solid nap per day. that was harder b/c he would be in the PNP in the living room, staring at me while he was screaming. i keep some toys in there and eventually he'll lay down and play and then conk out.
Its not easy and takes a few nites. Keep trying though..hang in there.

Re: Day 2 of CIO/Ferber....need success stories and what you did.
Ughhh I have to go through this for our 3rd time. The first was at 7.5 months when he learned how to crawl and pull up, he didnt want to sleep. Then at 11 months after he was sick. Now tonight we are back at night #1 at 11.5 months bc his schedule got all messed up with christmas eve and today. He's absolutely beyond EXHAUSTED. He's been crying for 45 mins. I cant take it I feel like I have to do this too much. DH gets worse everytime and wants me to rock him. The huge problem with that is he wakes AGAIN and cries again anyway when I put him down. So I'm cutting out that crying 2x by not going in at all. Its so heartbreaking. Its so much harder as he gets older. I know it does work and it does lessen everyday but I just hate it. I hate the MOTN wakings too, those are the worst. 5 mins feels like an hour when you're half asleep.
