C25K success stories?
I hate running with a passion but I always want to get into it. I realize that makes no sense whatsoever. I have tried C25K before but I always am too busy to follow through. Well..not now! I started doing it and I actually like it. I was wondering if anyone has done the full program and how you found it?

Re: C25K success stories?
I started it in April of 2009...at the beginning I was struggling to run for 60 seconds....November of 2010 I ran the NYC Marathon! It’s really amazing if you stick with it. I stopped running for a few years & started all over again with C25K 7 weeks ago...I’m almost back to running 3 miles without stopping. It really works!

No FREAKING way!!! That is amazing!! I really feel like there is no way any program can get this fat azz running more than 60 seconds but I'm sticking with it. I finished day 2. No runner's high here yet but I'm waiting! LOL

Wow! That is great! When I was single, I used to go to the gym and I went from walking to jogging on the treadmill. As I was on the treadmill, I'd think "This isn't bad. I can run the marathon!" And then I'd go home and have ice cream! Needless to say, I've never run a marathon.

You can do it! And don’t forget...not every run will feel amazing...some days just suck lol. If you feel you need to repeat a week, that’s ok. There were a bunch of us in 2009 on the diet & fitness board that were doing C25K, and so many went on to do half & full marathons. Have fun, and feel free to message me if you have any questions!

I hate it with passion too!!!! I was never a runner but after seeing my friend training for a marathon, I gave it a try. The app is good and I did improve with my running but it took me a while! Unfortunately I stopped but I wanna start doing it again cause even though I’d constantly have to force myself to do it, I did like how I felt afterwards. I’d suggest getting running shoes specifically for ur feet, it makes a difference!

Re: C25K success stories?
I never did C25K but I’ve been a runner since high school with many starts and stops. Sometimes 1-2 yrs with zero running, other times really into it. I was supposed to run my 5th half marathon last weekend :(
Here’s my 2 cents: - slow down. Like barely faster than a walk. It’s still running. This will help you develop fitness and endurance and over time you will go faster. You have to teach your body to run slower. -stay with it. I promise you, you will be amazed at how much you progress if you are consistent -the key to getting a runners high is being in shape and then pushing yourself. To get in shape, just keep going. If you can’t run full distance, do intervals of walking and slowly reduce the walking time. Also, see point number 1. -I’ve always been amazed how fast you can get in or out of shape. I ran 9 miles in training early March but then gave up with race canceled. Today 2.5 miles was hard. I’ve been walking and doing other exercise the last 2 months. But I know if I’m consistent with running, I can get back to 5+ miles in a few weeks. -all this to say, don’t give up. Don’t get frustrated and listen to your body (rest, stretching, water)
Good luck. It really does become addictive once you get over that fitness hurdle (see tip #1 that’s really the secret!)

C25K success stories?
I keep starting and stopping, but you guys are really making me want to stick with it. Some days are easy and other days feels like I'm running in buckets of sand. I'm definitely a slow runner, but I tend to do it on the treadmill so I can watch TV and it keeps my mind off running.

C25K success stories?
I've done C25K and have run many 5Ks after doing the app. It really helped me learn to run. Unfortunately, I've had some back injuries lately, so running is painful for me. I'm hoping to start to try running again in a few more months.

C25K success stories?
I didn’t do that program but in 2016 I signed up for a half marathon without being able to run down the block. Started running in mid June and ran the half beginning of October.
I would run 3-4 days a week. 2-3 short runs and then a long run on the weekend. I would add a mile every week to my long runs. Now I run (well normal times) a half about every month or two. So far all I had scheduled for the year have been cancelled.

C25K success stories?
I think I will try starting next week. Can anyone suggest an app that pipes in over music/podcast that will tell you when to stop/start? there seems to be so many options I got overwhelmed.

U can use the app and listen to music in ur phone at the same time. When the person in the app is telling u to start/stop walking/running, it interrupts the song u’re listening to, once it’s done speaking, the song resumes. Is that what u were asking?

C25K success stories?
I did it like 2 years ago. Dh is an avid runner (he’s run a 50 mile race) and I committed to running 1 5k with him. I made it through and we did run a race and then I stopped running. I absolutely hate running.

C25K success stories?
I did it maybe 12 years ago now! I couldn't run at all and in the last 10 years I've run 3 marathons and over a dozen half marathons. Its the one thing that's keeping me sane right now!

My question was what app does everyone use. If you search, 20 different ones come up so I have no idea which is best.

I use the C25K 5K Trainer (the app button is orange). You can listen to music & it will interrupt like the above poster mentioned.

Thank you! My sister in law is an avid runner and she said the same thing about taking it slow and getting good sneakers. Day 3 is in the books. Let's see what this week brings!
I have a wide foot. Does anyone suggest a particular sneaker? I can't wear Nike.

C25K success stories?
I went to a store that specializes in watching your walk, foot size, etc. They took a thermal scan of my foot and could tell the type of shoe that would work for me. I can’t remember the place I went though since it’s been so long.
I also have wide feet and both times I was measured I went with New Balance shoes.

Re: C25K success stories?
I always size up in running shoes. I’m an 8.5 regular but 9 in running shoes. Especially as you go longer distances, your feet swell.
Unfortunately trying them on is the best method. I would say that a 5k typically is a short enough distance that a “running” (is not a cross trainer) can handle. If you get to longer distances, you might need something labeled support. You can find reviews online but just make sure you get a running shoe.
I got an assessment about 2 years ago and haven’t had time to go again so I just keep buying the new model of the same shoes.
I also use aetrex active complete insoles for added support. But I have pain in my foot due to an old injury.

Re: C25K success stories?
I agree with getting fitted when the stores open back up...The Runners Edge in Farmingdale is great! I wear ASICS. For now maybe research what works for wider feet & get a new good pair. That helps so much! Also, try to avoid sidewalks...blacktop is better!

Re: C25K success stories?
So just thought I would throw a little update out there...I can not even believe I am saying this but I have now graduated to Couch to 10K. AND I signed up for my first 5k. Just add that to the list of strange occurrences in 2020! LOL
Quick questions:
What are good running shorts? What about socks? I feel like my socks are bunching up at the front/bottom of my foot but when I take my shoe off, they are fine. It's a very weird sensation.

Way to go!
For shorts I always go back to Nike Tempo shorts - always reliable for me and can find sales.
For the socks are you sure your shoes aren't too narrow or small? Your shoes may be rubbing on the seams?

Woohoooooo!! Congratulations that is awesome!!
As far as shorts, I used to buy adidas at Marshall’s. For longer runs I use compression pants, those helped me so much. Try different thicknesses & brands of socks until you find what works!
