I am a teacher. I will do anything to be able to go back full time to my students. One of my concerns is wearing the masks when the rooms feel like 100 degrees in September. The heat in these rooms is no joke. It seriously feels like you are in a sauna all day, like the equivalent to wearing a mask on a beach all day. I am hoping that there is serious consideration in putting ac in these rooms. In past years, it has stayed hot and uncomfortable well into October. I am so desperate to go back, I’ll take my chances and pass out which is seriously a possibility.

My school has window air conditioners. They are going to try not to use them. They want the windows opened and fresh air circulating.

I can understand the thinking behind this, but I am telling you it is pure torture. Everyone dripping in sweat from head to toe. Some kids can barely lift their heads off the desks from the heat. This will only be magnified with mask wearing. That is wonderful that your district has had ac in the rooms all this time!

I teach on a upper floor and understand what you are saying but I am still wearing a mask and making my students wear masks. It’ll be uncomfortable but I’m not putting myself in a situation which will increase my likelihood of exposure.

Our district in NJ is very small, at 50% capacity for in person learning that puts us at about 7 kids in the classroom at one time. Implementing social distancing is easy given those numbers, masks are not required during learning. They only have to wear a mask when moving through the classroom to go to the bathroom or if they need to move through the hallways.
The district also has installed tons of picnic tables outdoors on the school properties so kids can have outdoor learning, activities and lunch.

Masks in school
I did find out today that desks in class will be 6 ft apart so they will not need to wear them then but will need to when walking in the halls to use the restroom, going to lunch etc

Honestly we can talk all we want about “6 feet apart” and the mask mandate but in reality kids are going to be kids & none of that will be happening consistently anyway. In reality they’ll be trying on each other’s masks & going home with the wrong mask. Kids will be getting close to each other just like they’ve always done. Why bother with these “rules” when we all know it’ll be impossible to enforce them? Adults can’t even wear masks correctly & social distance properly, we’re going to expect a bunch of 10 year olds to do it? I’m sure teachers will do their best to enforce it but since when do kids listen & do what they’re told perfectly? The teachers has to have an opportunity to teach too. And what if the kids need the teacher, he or she will have to say “Sorry I can only help you from over here across the room.” Talking about what should happen in schools is nice in theory but we all know it’s just talk and not going to be practical to implement.
