Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
Just a curiosity question....did anyone travel outside of NY to another state that was not one of our neighboring states (NJ, CT, etc.) for the holiday?
I'm genuinely curious and not looking to start a debate - and I am certainly not an undercover DoH person or anything
And if so, how did you handle the travel advisory?

We did not travel.
Some of my students traveled and are currently attending school virtually.

Re: Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
I traveled out of state the week before Thanksgiving due to a family medical emergency. When I came back to NY, I quarantined for 3 days and then tested on the 4th day. That test was negative, so I was able to come out of quarantine. I asked for a note from the physician who performed the test in case anyone asked.
While it was a bit frustrating, I would rather not be Typhoid Mary and spread Covid across the Midwest all because I didn't want to quarantine for a few days.

Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
I was in Florida for the entire month of November. Just got back. I got the covid test with my son three days before travelling and i'll get the second test tomorrow. I am an essential worker so I am not subject to quarantine anyways, but I am getting the tests as I am also bringing my son to get them as well.

Sorry you had to go through all of that for such a stressful reason. Hope everything is ok.

Nope... we did not leave the house and did not have anyone over. I must say it was really nice. Usually it's so many people and the kids are off with other kids and we are with the adults. It was nice to sit in the dining room and spend time together talking and taking our time. No rush and everyone enjoyed.

Re: Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
Not me but my aunt and uncle returned from Florida last week. They gave false contact information to the people collecting the forms so they couldn’t be reached and were out and about as soon as they got home. Refused to test.

Re: Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
We got back from FL right before thanksgiving. Tested before we left FL and 4 days upon return. All negative.
Interestingly my cousin who has not left LI and has been working from home since March tested positive when we were away. Obviously we did not see him for thanksgiving.

No travel here, we stayed home for Thanksgiving. It was just myself, my DH and the kids.

I'm surprised they don't ask you for ID or something to prove who you are and your addresse or something. Seems way too easy to fake the forms. But I guess that would take too long to check ID's and would cause huge bottle necks

I know! I definitely was rethinking but so far, so good!
We stayed home, but that was the plan to begin with the did not see extended family because that wasn't even our plan pre-COVID.
I was just curious how all this contact tracing and quarantine were working because the rules seem to change by the day and as an educator, we seem to not get a lot of info even though we have had an abundance of cases on our area (we are in the yellow).
I figured it may be easier to try to track people down at the airport...but how the heck do they monitor the roads?
Also, for those who tested out of state, who do the results go to besides the patient?
Sorry for the questions, but I am genuinely curious and I have students who ask me questions all the time and I'm like

Re: Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
Technically they can monitor the roads via EZpass activity but I'm not sure how much they actually do.

Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
We didn’t but I recently had family who did. They tested in FL 3 days before they left and in NY on the fourth day after their return. Nobody was monitoring them. Only they get the results. And when they first called they were told that travel wasn’t a valid reason for a test.
I think the contact tracers are overwhelmed. I had a PTA mtg tonight and the principal said the contact tracer she was dealing with this weekend (we too are yellow) had over 300 cases - before anyone those people were in contact with.
Many people I know who have been in quarantine haven’t been contacted until 6 days after they were informed. One of my friends missed a call for her son on day 6 and wasn’t contacted again until day 9. They do send daily texts though once you have been contacted.

What does the daily text say? Hi are you home? Reply 1 for yes, 2 for no?

I'm picturing having to reply with a selfie of yourself on the couch to prove you're home.

I work in the hospital and one of my employees had to go to FL for an emergency. We are exempt from the quarantine since we are essential and even though he checked that in his form, he was still called and checked on daily. He was called the first 2 days when he was home and his next shift was on day 3 of his return. He told them he was home (why I don’t know I guess he thought he would get in trouble even though he’s an essential employee) and the person calling said you aren’t home and said your cellphone isn’t pinging at a tower near your house. Needless to say, I find that creepy and I had to give him an employment verification that he was essential and they stopped calling after that

Wow, how high tech are these contract tracers facilities? They know what tower you are pinging off of?

Did Anyone Travel out of State for Thanksgiving?
We just flew into Newark and they had someone at baggage claim asking anyone who was traveling into NY to fill out forms. I didn't see anyone to walk over to fill out a form.

so when you test out of state (or in state after you get home), no one else gets your results. You are supposed to keep them in case you are asked for them though. No one asked for ours.
As far as the roads, we drove and didn't see anyone stopping anyone at the NY border. From what I understand, it's very random and infrequent that they stop cars.
