For those who’s kids have been at school full time
Is your school requiring face shields on busses?
We are going back FT in a couple of weeks (better late than never) and they are requiring face shields on busses. My boss’ son went back this week and his district required them as well but I don’t recall hearing about this with districts who have been open full time from the beginning.
Thanks!
ETA - this is on top of masks.

Just masks and they can only be in the same seat as someone in their household. A large majority of our families are driving.

No. And that's a bit much. Why on buses and not in the classroom?

No not for my sons school. Just masks. They also only use plastic dividers for lunch.
K-5 have been full time since September.

No. Just masks and one child to a seat every other row. Only same households can sit together

They will be 3 ft apart with desk barriers in the classroom (if they couldn't get desk barriers they would be required to use face shields too and that sounds miserable...)
We are only allowed to sit with siblings too and now have assigned seats (because a bus driver tested positive and people called them out on the 6ft rule). DS 1 only takes the bus home (it comes ridiculously early in the morning) because I don't have over an hour of my afternoon to pick up both kids (we're too close for DS 2 to get a bus).
I was just curious how other districts who've been back full time most of the year have been doing it (not the ones who are going full steam ahead in April). It's crazy how county DOH's in the same state interpret the same rule so differently.

We have been back full time since Sept. No face shields ever and no plastic barriers between desks And she has about 18 kids in her class so you can mark my word they aren't sitting too far apart. 1 kid per seat on the bus unless they are a sibling At this point why don't they just require hazmat suits with oxygen tanks for the kids and call it a day?

No just masks. But our buses are pretty empty. Many parents opted to drop/pick up kids. My son is only in the bus in the afternoon as we are able to drop him off and open space on the bus.

My DS just started taking the bus last month since he BEGGED us because his friend rides the same bus. Most parents are driving their children. Our district only requires masks on bus.

Most parents are driving their kids here too so pick up is beyond miserable. And it's going to get worse with everyone going full time...

I don't understand that. What's so bad about the bus? They are masked, spaced out and the windows are cracked. It's safer than the classroom. My daughter has been on the bus since day one- no issues at all.

I am thinking it's additional exposure. A lot of people opted out of the bus rather quickly as two busloads of kids got quarantined the first week of school for one kid (he took a different bus in the am and the pm because of where he lived)

yeah i guess if you are looking to avoid extra quarantining. I guess I am super lucky- DD hasn't had to quarantine once- not from the class, not from the bus. I feel like I'm dodging bullets like crazy. LOL

We haven't had to either (knock on wood) but most people we know have had to do it at least once (most more often). In the beginning though - they quarantined entire classes/busses for exposure. In Feb they just swithced to the ones within 6ft so the overall quarantines have decreased.

Mine takes the bus but has to get a ride home as early dismissal. Thought would have to quarantine too for a kid in lunch but knock on wood so far no call.

Re: For those who’s kids have been at school full time
My kids have been in full time since September. Only masks. On the bus it’s supposed to be only sitting with the same household, But my kids have told me that isn’t always happening. And no plastic between their desks either. But they have very small classes.

Same for us. I feel like they have started loosening up on precautions when it comes to the bus.
I just tell my kids to sit alone or they have to quarantine and miss their activities

For those who’s kids have been at school full time
Thanks!
They said on our BOE meeting tonight that based on the new guidance - face shields may not be needed. They also axed desk shields which is good and bad as my 3rd grader says his new desk is too small (they had nice triangle desks previously as our district mainly uses flexible seating in upper elementary - the shield would keep things from falling lol.
