So side note- my husband just came in and said the pressure treated wood boards he needs to replace a bunch on our deck that have rotted over the years are now double the price they were last summer when he was buying them. Double. Literally double. He was floored.
Something not great is going on in this country with the price of things.
So just something to consider- we seem to be in a state of really bad inflation.
Lumber is actually having a shortage right now! Contractors are having a hard time even finishing projects because of it.
Production slowed down because of Covid and now they have to play catch-up. I did read eventually it will go back down.
Because of this I probably won’t start any projects that require lumber cause it would kill me to pay double the price due to a shortage
I am sure it’s the same for pools right now. Prices I am sure are insane because of the demand. I’m in the fence about getting a pool but I will definitely wait to see if prices go down cause I hate over paying.
I am 100% not trying to make a political statement, but I also read that we get a lot of lumber from Canada and because Biden shut down the pipeline to them, they are not supplying us like normal. That is worrisome if that is the case because who knows if/when that will ever change.
As for the pool, I honestly don't think that sounds too bad. Last year when I was pricing them out (and I got in before the craziness started), semi-ingrounds were only a few thousand less than a full inground. I think the quote I got for the semi I wanted was $23K. Just the pool.
I also agree with the suggestion to get a heater. My kids swam in the pool until we closed it on October 22nd and now it's been opened since mid-April.
What I read it’s has to do with tariffs for Canada. It was at 24% Trump slashed it to 9% and now they are asking Biden to lower it more. At least according to this article https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/05/05/business/lumber-prices-home-building-costs/index.html

The built in quote I got was $31k for the pool, electric etc. deck and pavers would have been more but I didn’t get the in ground because of the tax increase but now I come to find out it’s not all that much. Now I’m just so confused. I have no idea what to do. I’m just trying to ride out the feeling of being overwhelmed with costs
I was biting my nails all last summer. Every time I turned around there was something new that was $$$. It cost just as much as the pool to take down trees, replace fencing, replace the sprinklers, lay sod and the pavers. Now this year we are landscaping it and I really was clueless about the costs of landscaping. Wow.
But it is so worth it. You kids will love it. You will get over the cost of it all. My taxes went up like $500 I think.

I think that sounds about right. We got a quote for a semi inground 6 years ago and just the pool itself was $10K not including installation and plumbing.
This year we just put in a basic biiitch round 21' pool. The pool and installation was about $6K. We spent another $1700 removing some trees and a few hundred bucks so far on miscellaneous things.
Originally we were going to do a deck around the pool but with the shortage and cost of lumber we are foregoing it instead we bought a sturdy step system for entry and exit into the pool.
ETA: My friend is doing an inground right now upstate NY. In total with pool, installation, heater, stamped concrete around the pool it's costing about $50K plus they keep delaying things due to shortage of materials..crazy times.

And just wait -- the shortages are going to extend to many more products. Overseas just to get containers to put your product in you need to haggle (and bribe). Once you get the container there is no guarantee you will actually have it picked up at the port and put on a boat. This is all added to production slow downs since COVID. To add to that China has moved away from using plastics transitioning to paper and cardboard. So now there is a shortage of paper because they are using their own supply and anything made with paper will all increase in price. Get ready for toilet paper wars again -- just the cost alone!
