COVID protocol for school
If a parent test positive, how does the school get notified? Do the parents call or does SCDOH notify the school? I’m curious because I know of someone who tested positive but still sent her child to school. She said her child was fine and no one would know at the school. I thought that SCDOH contacted the school. Anyone know?

COVID protocol for school
In our district it’s our responsibility to tell the school if our children were exposed outside of school.

COVID protocol for school
I had covid and I contacted the school that day and picked them up immediately. They were ultimately ordered to quarantine by the DOH. To my knowledge, DOH did not contact the school. Does your friend's child have the vaccine? If they have the vaccine and have no symptoms they don't have to quarantine

Child should not be in school, but if the parent doesn’t tell the school then they have no way to know.
My son tested positive on the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend. I told his best friend’s mom immediately since they play together every day. The mom sent her kid to school on Tuesday. The kid developed symptoms Tuesday night. I was not contacted about close contacts from the DOH until late Thursday afternoon.

I think unless they tell them themselves, they wouldn't know. Maybe she had her child tested to make sure. At least thats what i would have done at the bare minimum.

Re: COVID protocol for school
Our district has a dedicated email address you are supposed to write to, to let them know of exposure. Last week my son was notified he was not a close contact but someone in one of his classes had Covid. The issue is no one is missing from any of his classes. He was fully vaccinated.

It’s the wild Wild West out there. Every man for himself. I don’t think our district has quarantined anyone the whole year. We had an entire class shut down by DOH after half the class tested positive and at that point not one kid or the teacher had been quarantined. Add to that no one seems to be sharing with the DOH their close contacts so it’s really a free for all. At this point it is what it is. Their quarantine rules make ZERO sense at this point and no one can convince me they do. Allowing vaccinated people to skip out on quarantine cannot have any other justification than just being a political move to support their narrative. A family friends elementary son had covid two weeks ago. The sibling and dad had to quarantine because they were unvaccinated. She was so happy she didn’t have to quarantine and could go on with life as normal which included going into the office because she was vaccinated. Two days later she felt sick and the next day tested positive. 3 vaccinated coworkers caught it. The CDC and their rules are a joke at this point as is anyone who believes that vaccinated people getting and spreading covid isn’t happening RAMPANTLY right now. My last count was six in the last 5 weeks in my small circle.

Re: COVID protocol for school
None of this makes sense at all. My son was not feeling well and I took my son to get a Covid test (I probably was being overly cautious) but his rapid came back negative but he still can't go back to school until his PCR comes back. If his rapid came back positive I would not have had to quarantine I would of been able to go to work, wear a mask at all times and then test after 3 days. None of it all makes sense but a child whose parent is sick can go to school and expose other children because their parent didn't inform the school.

None of the rules make sense anymore. If you have Covid then stay home just like you should any other time you are sick. Quarantining rules are a joke.

The more and more time goes on - the less it makes sense.

And the more these rules don't make sense, the less people will follow them. I'm tone deaf to it by now. I don't even pay attention anymore. Because it's all a circus and it's all nonsense.

My son was around 1 unvaccinated child and 4 vaccinated adults. None of the vaccinated adults got it and he was hugging and kissing them. The child who he sat near and played video games got sick. He was not even sitting close to the child.

That’s your answer as to why vaccinated people shouldn’t have to quarantine.?

Re: COVID protocol for school
Yes, this is about math. Unvaccinated people are statistically more likely to get covid in the first place. So two unvaxxed, unmasked kids in the same room are far more likely to infect each other and unvaxxed adults than any people sharing the air who only have 10-30ish% odds of contracting covid even when unmasked and directly exposed. Even still, I know several vaxxed people who proactively self-quarantine waiting out other people’s PCR results and they’d certainly lockdown if anyone in their own house was showing symptoms let alone tested positive, no DOH orders required. Guess I’m lucky my circle and coworkers are considerate.

It’s not about math when no one is keeping track of breakthrough cases anymore. Ignoring reality doesn’t make it go away.

Definitely not about math - if it was, they would focus the vaccination push on areas with low vaccination rates and high numbers of positives instead of NYC employees where less than 1% are testing positive.

Yup and let’s look at Florida with NO mandates cases have come down 90 percent since August and they have one of the lowest case numbers of any state in the country.
Meanwhile our tanking city is about to really reach rock bottom. Election Day is next week. Let’s vote smart.

It's bizzaro world where NOTHING makes sense anymore. But.......SCIENCE!!!!
And it's a shame what the city has become. In such a short time all the positive work of the last 2 years that made the city amazing, has been destroyed.

Yes this is what I mean.
My DH and I made our son isolate once he showed symptoms and we both got tested on day 5 and tested negative. Only then, did I go back to work in-person.
