WWYD? Moving and kitchens

So I am moving soon. I have temporary accommodation (army barracks, lol) in case I don’t get an apartment right away. I have been clearing out many things and getting ready for the move.

Kitchens don’t often come with an apartment. That is the case in my current apartment. So I now have a full kitchen that needs to be moved.

If I get an apartment with a kitchen, then I will sell my kitchen. If I don’t have an apartment before I leave, then I will have the appliances packed away. I am wondering if I should pack the cabinets away, too. It’s an Ikea kitchen and I have a lot of different parts that can be fit together. That said, the line was discontinued, so if I run into a problem, then I can’t just get another matching cabinet. I could do a mix and match and make it work probably. I will most likely need a new countertop, which is sad because I have a nice wood countertop that I put a lot of care into.

So would you bring the old kitchen and see what I can do? The appliances will definitely come with me since they are all standard size.

If you don't know what the size/layout of your new kitchen will be, I would sell the existing cabinets and buy new ones to fit the new apartment.

Can you sell the cabinets to your landlord? This way, then can rent it as a full kitchen (minus the appliances).

This. Sell to landlord or to new tenants if people are moving right in. I purchased furniture from a previous tenant at my second apartment. It helped everyone involved.

My landlord is a bit difficult, and I would prefer to make a clean break. I also have to paint the apartment before I leave as per my contract. The kitchen needs to be as it was when I moved in.

Additional info: It costs money to have someone remove big items if you can’t sell or give them away.

I can live without a kitchen for a few months. I have done it before with crock pots and portable hot plates. I just dread having to pay 1000s for a new kitchen cabinets and installation when my stuff is good. The moving part is paid for, so I can get part of the installation for free. Or free storage if I don’t find a new apartment in time.

I should probably wait until I find an apartment.
