The past few nights I've noticed a car parked in front of my house. It bothers me. I get home at 11:30PM. This car is not there. A little while later i notice it. No one's in it just parked there. I'm thinking of looking out for it and asking who ever it is not to park in front of my house. Everyone has a driveway and they should park at what ever house they're going to. I am nuts that this is bothering me???
Hit enter by accident. Give a guy a break.
that would DEF bother me. but I will tell you that the same thing happened to my mom and she made my dad go out there and confront the guy and the guy apparently was screwing around on his wife and was parking his car in front of my mom's house and his lover would pick him up there, so that his wife wouldn't find his car. (He apparently lived on the other side of town). So my dad told him to go park elsewhere lol

I'd like to add that it's still there at 7am but gone by 10am.

Re: Okay would this bother you?
wait - he's parked in front of your house on the street? ie - not blocking the driveway?
I'm confused - why does it bother you? Perhaps it's a mate of one of your neighbors and they don't want to park in the driveway or there's no room?
I dunno - I'm from the city...and we don't claim parking spots...just b/c they're in front of our house....

Re: Okay would this bother you?
you know something, I always wondered that when we go out to family/friends on LI or even in queens and park in front of someone's house.
usually it's when other family is over so the spot in front of the house is taken and we need to look elsewhere.
but I really was thinking about that the other day...like people sit there saying "who the hell is parking in front of my house" I guess it's true.
and Kev...it was just too easy

Re: Okay would this bother you?
I don't know if it would bother me. I know people don't like when there are cars parked in front of their house, but it's the street, not your driveway. Maybe one of your neighbors has a new booty call.
If you ask someone not to park in front of your house do they have to listen?

Re: Okay would this bother you?
You could try what they do here in Texas. People usually have at least 1 or 2 cars that don't run and they park them in front of the house. That prevents anyone else from taking the spot.

Because it's a suburban neighborhood and no one parks on the street. Every one has driveways. If they are visiting some one and they have no room in their driveway they should park in front of their house. It's a little unsettling to see a strange car in front of the house that was never there before all night for the last few nights.
what if someone is renting out their downstairs apt, but already has two cars and this person just finds parking in front of you.
or maybe he likes the way you decorated your house?
I don't know...maybe be on the look out for the driver and then "welcome" him to the nabe. ie be excessively nosy.

I dunno - I guess what struck me as the odd part is looking/waiting for the person and then asking them NOT to park in front of the house...
I naturally park in front of someone's house and NEVER park in their driveway/garage...but I will usually park right in front of their house. However, if someone ever approached me and said "please do not park in front of our house" I think I may go apeshyte....
again - it's the "city" in me...and unless there are designated parking spots (lines) like in a condo-area....I don't see how the owner of a home can ask someone NOT to park on the street - isn't that city/town property?

Re: Okay would this bother you?
Its hard to say. Just like a previous poster, I am in Queens and parking in front of other peoples houses is how we get parking. So I dont understand the suburban neighborhood very well. I guess if thats how you guys do things, it would bother me too.
I do live in a house in Queens, with a driveway. We have a spot right in front of the house though. ANYONE parks there, I cannot imagine going out there and telling them not to..unless I want a punch in the nose!

Re: Okay would this bother you?
It would bother me but I would also know there's nothing I could do about it since I don't own the street.

It's not an issue of "finding" parking like it is in the city. Like Kevin said, no one parks on the street so they can park in front of their OWN house or the person that they're visiting if that's the case. There's really NO reason for anyone to park in front of our house. There are available spots everywhere!!
