But, just out of curiosity...why is this posted on every board?
Good question I only saw it on one other board, I think the celebrity(unless I didn't see the other ones on "every board"). And if it is maybe she just wanted to post it on "every board"

I don't believe a word she says about this issue. I think she's a lovely woman with a great sense of humor, who loves her son a whole lot, but I just don't trust her opinion on this matter. If I need information on a medical issue -I will find research from doctors, or qualified experts. Not celebrities who have a child who may or may not have Autism. That's just me.
I highly doubt that if I had a child with Autism and I wrote this book, anyone would read it. Simply being a celebrity does not make you an expert, or a reliable source.
But, just out of curiosity...why is this posted on every board?
well girly..as said before....that...its not her research..if it would be hers...i wouldnt listen...lol...but its many doctors...who do the research..and she is the one...telling a story..thats all...i dont think her son was misdiagnosed... if you read more from previous posts..u will see that its true..me and u can write abook..noone willl listen...but if a celebrity does....people will hear more about it...hear the other side of the story...at least read her story..look online...find those DAN docs (Defeat Autism Now)...and just simply see what they have to sayyy...because speech therapy and other things..do help too..but autism involves a lot more to it really,...!!! there are health issues that are linked too u know..child gets allergic reactions...has too much yeast in their body ...etc... I had no idea until i saw it online...read her story..and many other stories that are in her book.....

I recently attended a seminar by a DAN doctor (chiropractic neurologist). It was def. interesting. She was very honest and did say that 50% of her patients do not see any improvement at all. It's VERY expensive to see a DAN doctor, and insurance typically doesn't cover the blood work, etc.

No popcorn needed. I just cannot believe that someone would believe what Jenny McCarthy writes and ONLY believes that.
HOWEVER, if what she writes makes someone research the subject more, than that's a good thing.

Re: Jenny McCarthy...autism....
I'm going to stand with my opinion as always. Whether that is seen as judgmental or not is up to the interpreter.
I'm happy that Ms. McCarthy did her research, got answers and that her son in improving. I agree that the terminology she chooses is misleading and planting false hopes.
I have also seen kids on the DAN diet over a span of at least 2-3 years. I haven't seen improvement in their levels of functioning. In one case, a parent is still doing his homework.

you know ladies...i just wanted to know about this issue..and i asked my fds from russia..what they know about autism..and if they know...anyone...that has it!?
Many people know about it because we ..here have it...and they hear about it now more....but the cases themselves.....hmmm...not much....i cant say ...100%...but...its very interesting..because..over here its a big deal now..over there...they dont know much about it...(they do know what it is..n stuff...)but never saw it....
I am also from former USSR country(next to Russia) and I have few friends who are drs and my best friend is married to a pediatrician. I have asked them and I have asked around and did some research to find out more about Autism in the country and how often kids are diagnosed there. surprisingly not much, veeery few cases(more like 1 last year) of autism diagnosed every year. Parents are very aware(and knowledgeable) of the spectrum disorders ,but as I said not too many cases reported. Kids get vaccinated over there just like they do here, the only difference is that they are spread out more and vaccines are made in Europe(not sure if that matters at all). I think there is many factors to it and many causes. And I think we still have a long way to go to finding out what exactly is causing ASD.
i agree with you! deff because they are made in europe..too!!!
Numbers from European and other countries....
http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=community_world_incidence
China 1,100,000 Peking Health Science Center (estimate based on official 2005 rate of 1.1 in 1000 children affected)
India 2,000,000 Action for Autism India (based on an estimated rate of 1 in 250)
United States 1,500,000 U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ADDME Study 2007 and Autism Society of America
United Kingdom 650,000 National Autistic Society 2006 (based on rate of 1 in 100)
Mexico 150,000 Based on estimates by Ministry of Health of 2 to 6 per 1000
Philippines 500,000 Autism Society of Philippines
Thailand 180,000 Estimate of the Minister of Mental Health
Some European ideas about Autism: http://www.autismeurope.org/portal/Default.aspx?tabid=577
What are the reasons for the insurgence of Autism? The reasons are not well known. It is clear however that if we look at the most recent estimates of the prevalence of all forms of PDDs, we have rates of about 60 per 10,000 which consistently come up in recent surveys. This is three times as high as the rate of 20 per 10,000 reported by Wing & Gould in the mid-70s in the Camberwell Study. It is obvious that changes in diagnostic criteria, a broadening of the concept of autism, an increased awareness by professionals that autism could occur in children with normal intelligence, the new category of Asperger Disorder and of PDD NOS have all contributed to this increased rates. In addition, many professionals and the lay public are now aware of Autism Spectrum Disorder which facilitates the identification of children suffering from this condition in studies. Whether or not in addition to these factors, there is a true increased in the incidence of the disorder is not known. We do not have good epidemiological data providing incidence estimates over time which can be used to address efficiently this question. The claims of an association with particular risk factors such as MMR immunisation or the mercury content of vaccines have not been supported by research.
I am the mother of a 3-year-old girl with autism. Can an autistic child become normal and which is the best treatment? I live in Sweden and here they begin with a Norwegian method called 'TIPO training' and my daughter is on the waiting list. But I would also like to know of other methods used to treat Autism. (Parent, Sweden) Autism is generally considered to be a genetic disorder and thus there are no cures as such, any more than there are cures for conditions such as Downs Syndrome. However, with appropriate education and support facilities a great deal can be done to ensure that a child’s basic abilities are developed to the fullest extent possible. Education appropriate to the child’s particular levels of abilities and difficulties is without doubt the most important intervention for both children and families. Most successful educational programmes involve a combination of developmental and behavioural approaches, with an emphasis on structure and predictability, and strategies designed to overcome the fundamental communication difficulties that are associated with autism. The TEACCH methodology offers an excellent framework for interventions of this kind. Although there are claims that certain treatments can bring about “recovery” or “cures” for autism (these range from intensive behavioural treatments to diets, vitamins, pet therapy etc) such claims are not substantiated. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Norwegian method called TIPO.
Small insight into Autism in Russia: http://www.autismconnect.org/news.asp?itemtype=adam§ion=000100010003&page=3&id=5083
There is, of course, no precise number of autism sufferers in Russia. After all, the same can be said about the United Kingdom, a far smaller nation. But the Morozovs agree that autism is genuinely increasing, although they feel the rise is also partly due to improved diagnostic tools and a broadening of the autistic spectrum.
Autism is everywhere, in every country, and every region. "European vaccines" aren't any better or worse than US vaccines. There is Autism in Russia, and it's on the rise there as well. It seems like most countries agree that it is "rising" because of better testing, and a broader definition of Autism.

Oh I didn't mean that it's not on the rise or it doesn't happen in other countries or that it happens more in the USA. not at all. . Of course it happens everywhere . I was just sharing what I know about "the country" I come from (even though I have been here for MANY years and this is my home now) and that's the information I have about it...
