Re: We're changing Kasey's food

I think that's awesome Kevin! It always makes me Chat Icon when these kinds of things happen as a result of sharing information here. It's why I stick around LIF. Chat Icon

We switched a little over a month ago to a much higher quality food and we actually phased in until their old food(s) were gone, about 2 weeks. I'm glad we did because it got worse before it got better, I guess their bodies had to acclimate to the shock. Chat Icon

But let me tell you... What a huge difference! We're very happy. They're actually doing their business less and gaining weight because better food is more highly digestible! We've had to cut back by a 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup for both of them.

I hope Kasey likes her new food! Bravo Kevin and Cindy! Chat Icon

We switched Lulu to that two a few months back and she loves it. Just make sure you gradually intoduce it to her diet so their body adjusts.

oh no I hope Kase transitions without any issues.Chat Icon

Put Cindy or Chelsea on poop duty this week. Chat Icon

It wasn't the worst it could have been, but wasn't the usual 'quality' poop either. Chat Icon A dog's poop is an excellent indicator of how they're handling their food, among other things. I don't go staring at it or anything, but we pick up immediately after they do their business, so it's hard not to notice.

Re: We're changing Kasey's food

I switched my dog's food very gradually over about a month's time and have zero problems or changes in stool. Slow and steady wins the race!

Ughhh I'm going through this now with our lil pup Linus. The breeder had him on Purina one (which is garbage). My mother uses Wellness Core which is $56.00 a bag but totally worth it as it's grain free( which are fillers) all natural not bi-products. He is pissing poop, I feel so bad for him.

My Mother uses wellness core for her Bernese Mountain Dogs. They love the results and it's so healthy and safe for them. We are in the process of switching our berner pup over, and he has the runs big time. Hope he adjusts real quicklyChat Icon

Re: We're changing Kasey's food

I'm sorry you've got soupy poops! Chat Icon How much of the old food/new food are you feeding each day? We went so slow, we only replaced 1/4 to 1/2 cup every four to seven days with the new food. But we were switching from a middle-of-the-road food.

I've heard of some dog's bodies not being able to handle the richness of really high quality food too. If you transition completely and 2-3 weeks later, they've still got the runs going on, you might have to consider downgrading. Chat Icon

Re: We're changing Kasey's food

He gets 1 1/2 cups in the a.m. and in the p.m. So we are doing 1 cup of the purina 1/2 of wellness.

I just spoke to my husband and the latest is he is solid. So keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: We're changing Kasey's food UPDATE

I switched too! I now feed them Canide and Evo (I mix the two b/c Evo is high in protein). Our lab had some issues even tho the transition lasted 2 weeks. He even had two accidents in the house!! I don't think he really loves it tho. He used to gobble up his old Pruina brand which is like Burger King compared to what I'm feeding him now.
