1 blocked tube
So we found out why we have not been getting pregs! My left tube is blocked according to the HSG I had this afternoon. I'm not sad-- I had severe endo and scarring in my repro organs and surgery to remove it so it was sort of expected. I am just so happy both tubes were not compromised! So what are my next steps???? My Lt ovary is the one producing and I am set to O around sunday. Am I totally out this cycle then? I was hoping the dr would push that damn dye through the tube but he was a sweet man LOL... I'm set to get bloods and sonogram on friday but will be running out to bring DS to school so I can't really talk to the RE. I know it could be so much worse with my history but it was hard to tell DH that we are most likely out of commission this cycle.. this blows!

Re: 1 blocked tube
I'm dealing with the one good tube thing too. My RE said that studies on ectopic pregnancies have shown ectopic on one side and follicle on the opposite. He said it is possible for left tube to pick up right egg and vice versa. They think that it happens more than we realize. I have also heard from a woman who actually had that happen on this board. So there is hope, and it does happen :) We chose one month to skip it and this month we went through with it.
Good Luck :)

Thank you Why would the RE want to skip the cycle if there is always a chance? Do they need a cycle of meds?

I did meds and IUI. Could happen naturally. I guess if its limited ins coverage the RE would rather wait for a good side cycle? Dr said to me why not, can't hurt :)

Re: 1 blocked tube
Yea, I have coverage for it and DH wants to just go for the IUI.. so I am assuming we need to go on meds first? We are so relieved that we decided to go to the RE instead of waiting it out.

Re: 1 blocked tube
She did not discuss anything with me yet.. just ordered a ton of tests and blood work.. the water sonogram looked good yesterday and she really thought my tubes were clear from it! So we didn't get a chance to discuss this cycle.. she seemed excited and wanted to see me friday before I O. I am assuming if she wanted it to be medicated, she would have addressed it during the water sono? Hopefully I will get some answers on Fri!

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it depends on your cycle, your bloodwork, and your follicles. Usually, depending on the issue, they start with clomid and that's taken either day 3-7 or 5-9. Good Luck on Friday!!!!!

I also had a blocked tube & didnt want to waste time. We went right to IVF. (I had insurance coverage) I was 36 at time & took FIVE full cycles to get pregnant. I have twins now B/B. I never had frozen embryos so yes, Five Fresh cycles!! If you have questions..ask away

i had my right tube removed b/c of an ectopic. i did get pregnant once on my own after but it was a chemical and then we moved to injectable IUI cycles. my RE at the time figured the injectables would give us the best chance of producing follicles on the "good side" and he was right, i always had a good amount of follicles but in 4 cycles i didn't get pregnant. we then moved on to IVF. i'm happy to answer any questions you have too!

At CD 9 I would be surprised if they put you on any meds this cycle. You usually have one cycle where all the testing it done then you start with any meds the next one.

you can absolutely still get pregnant with 1 tube. i had a blocked tube, decided to have a procedure to open up the tube, got pregnant with that tube and wound up with an ectopic pregnancy (i guess the tube was in bad shape). they had to remove the tube but i still got pregnant on my own, ovulating on the other side. when they say the tube can pick up an egg from the other ovary, it really does happen. plus, IVF totally bypasses the tubes so there is always that route. good luck!

Re: 1 blocked tube
You should find out if your tube is a hydrosalphinx, which is a tube filled with fluid. This fluid can leak into the cavity and compromise the environment in the uterus. YOu should consider removing it. I had a hyrdrosalphinx and got it removed. I eventually did IVF and I now have a healthy 4 year old daughter. Good Luck!
