whenever i see them in the news i always wonder whther i, if i had the $$, would want to have that many children.
she is 42 right now, so 18 children x 9 months per pregnancy = 162 months of being pregnant. she has been pregnant for literally 1/3 of her life!!
They have 2 sets of twins... but still a lot more of my life that I personally wouldn't want to be pregnant. Good for them since they can afford it and the kids are happy, healthy, and clothed.
yeah I watched a show with them and I have to say, they're pretty well grounded and she has an AMAZING attitude. I wanted to hate her so much but I couldn't
The thing is... I just have this feeling that they've become somewhat of a 'circus act' and are continuing to have babies for the publicity.
Just a feeling, not saying it's right...

Sorry, I'm tired of these people. Good for them, but how do you give enough attention to each kid, you can't. The older ones end up taking care of the younger ones while mom and dad try for the next. It seems like a circus to me. I'd like a big family, but not THAT big!
ITA I can't even watch the show anymore.

I'm sorry but this sounds like child abuse to me. There is NO way each kid gets the attention they deserve.
And it is totally unfair to ask the older kids to give up their teen years to take care of their siblings like this. Kids need to be kids which brings me to home schooling.
Really? You don't think those kids ever need to be around people that AREN'T their siblings? You don't think for once they's like to be around kids their OWN age?
And what is with the j names? how queer
Comparing having 18 children to child abuse is over the top, IMO. There are SO much worse things that can happen to a child than having to help raise their younger siblings and being homeschooled. If you watch the show, you can see the love in that house.
Is it a life I would choose for my family? Absolutely not. But is it their right to choose for themselves? Sure. And I for one am not going to judge them for it.

Child abuse is NOT limited to physical harm.
These kids are not helping to raise their siblings, they ARE rasing them. Sorry but that is Mom and Dad's job, they decided to live this life NOT the kids.
If you watch the show? Are you kidding?
A tv show that is edited to only show the good parts so the freak show doesn't run away? amazing

I had a friend whos parents had alot of kids after her.. not 17 but a few and she was the one primarily taking care of them.. and well she not saying soo much of physical abuse but she did develop some issues emotionally and mentally having to care for these other children at a young age. It wasnt fair to her to have to be put into a position like she was b/c the parents wanted more children.
I never saw this show so cant comment on that but I can see what the poster meant by abuse in a way on the older children by what I saw my friend go through.

Re: 18th child born to the Dugger family
All I can say is God bless 'em
I for sure couldn't handle that many kids! But they seem so genuine, so loving, that I am sure they love and care for each child in a special way, and it's comforting that they seem to instill basic values and ways of life that seem almost passe now. It's very humbling.
I agree with the PP who said they tried to not like them...I started watching them with mixed feelings and now I love watching them

if she stops getting pregnant and finally has her AF it's going to be like that SNL skit for "Annual"
"buy a hat and get ready to hold the f*ck on to it!"
Annual
I forgot about that skit!!! I was just PIMP watching it!

Does she even need to push anymore or do they just fall out by now?
I think 18 is a lot and I think it is a tremendous amount of stress to put on her body but hey, if its what she wants and she has healthy kids then good for them!

I feel for the kids, I really do. They are raising their brothers and sisters, they had no childhood of their own.

Re: 18th child born to the Dugger family
am I the only one not-so-secretly wishing her to have an early menopause?
IMO the parents are irresponsible. they use their kids like child labor... they literally had them help build their house. lkids with nail guns??! I'm also quite suspicious of the fact they never leave home and are home schooled. they dress oddly, are completely insulated, and are basically not permitted to see life on the outside... have friends they're not related to... I suspect the homeschooling is becuase the parents don't want them to know about the world outside.
I feel bad for the kids.

OMG that was great. I remember that. I think that is why she is so calm, no PMS. Scared to see if she would be like THAT if she ever stopped being pregnant or breastfeeding!!

You're not alone. I completely agree with you. They belong to a strange branch of christian evangelicalism called quiverful. Look it up. Really weird stuff.
