24 hour urine collection
So I had an extremely stressfull day today because the sale of my co-op is falling through and we are going to have 2 big mortgages while I am on maternity leave and not getting paid....anyway vent over....
but I went to dr. pilliteri today for a regular visit and my blood pressure was elevated. I told him I had a tough day but he is making me do the 24 hour urine collection anyway....
so here's my question ( if you made it through my babbling) have any of you done this before? I plan on doing it tom because I am off from work but I have a high risk appt at 10....Do you bring the jug with you???? Sooooo gross!!

Re: 24 hour urine collection
Yes, I did it.... and ended up having the c-section when I turned it in. I had to bring my jug to the hospital and waited there while they tested it. They were pretty sure I had preeclampsia and were having me wait out as long as possible, so they monitored me often. I had many other symptoms though. Protien in urine for well over a week, high (VERY HIGH) BP, sudden severe weight gain, headaches, seeing spots, overally crappy feeling. This was 36w6d when the twins were born. Good luck! Hopefully everything will be OK and they will just continue to monitor you closely.

Re: 24 hour urine collection
I'm sorry!! I cant help with the 24 hr urine collection, I never had to do that.
Sorry about your co-op. I def know the stress that causes. Our co-op in the city has been on the market for 2 yrs with 4 offeres...all of which have not gone through...( board denied them, bank issues, cold feet, and the list goes on.)
Hopefully both of us can get rid of our apartments.

Re: 24 hour urine collection
When I had to do it, I carried the jug around in a large tote bag with a cup. Whenever I had to go, I just brought the whole bag in the bathroom, peed in the cup and poured it in the jug. It was annoying but overall not too bad. My results were normal and I have had high BP my entire pregnancy so try not to stress it too much
Good luck !!

oops i guess my question wasn't clear...I have a high risk appt tom and they always make me pee before the sono. Do I bring the jug with me? or use something else and empty it into the big jug or did you just do it on a day you stayed home all day?

Re: 24 hour urine collection
i did this too for another reason....
i wouldn't bring the jug to the high rick appt.
just pee for them if they need a sample. It isn't a big deal if you miss one.
I did mine when I was home all day! it suuked!!!

Re: 24 hour urine collection
I just did this for Dr Pillitteri on Friday. I also was at Good Sam for a few hours having contractions later on in the day and I missed 1 sample while I was there. So I just continued to do the sample without that particular one. Then Saturday morning I had to go to the lab, drop it off, and they take blood. My urine showed protein in it the day before and my pressure was slightly elevated which is why he had me do the 24hr collection. Now I find out at 2pm tomorrow if I will be induced tmrw night because of it all

Re: 24 hour urine collection
I've done this 4x now (3xlast pregnancy, 1x this pregnancy)
Carry the jug with you all day (in a tote, bring a solo cup along to collect the urine, then dump it into the container)... Ask the high risk doctor what they want you to do. They may make you pee in a cup and use some of it for them and make you dump the rest in the jug.
It is not fun to lug around the collection, but honestly all things considered it's not that bad.

Re: 24 hour urine collection
I had to do this too,.. it's not fun but not too terrible. I agree with the others bring a cup.
I was told to keep the big jug refrigerated so when I left the house I used disposable cups with lids to bring back to the big jug LOL@!

Re: 24 hour urine collection
I had to do the 24 urine collection.....4 times when I was pregnant with DS! I'm a pro.
Yes, bring it with you. All of your pee needs to make it into that container.
I would pee into a solo cup then pour it into the collection tub.
Good luck!! Just a heads up, the first time I did it I was around 33 weeks. Never wound up pre eclemptic and went full term. Went into labor naturally at 38w6d
