POLL - Do you think the country is ready for the FIRST female president?
What do you think? I recently had this discussion with someone....who felt the US wasn't ready for a woman president.
Feel free to comment if you wish.

I think we're ready.
I don't think we're necessarily ready for Hillary to be that woman, however.

I agree with this 100%
However, I don't know if the rest of the world is ready for a woman US president.

Agree with McSullivan's post 100%...
I disagree the rest of the world isn't ready... Many foreign countries have had female heads of state -- India, China, Bolivia, Iceland, Mongolia, Switzerland, Ireland, Finland, Panama, the Pilippines, Indonesia, India, and many others...

I agree completely. While other countries have had women presidents, those countries were not world powers, such as the U.S. Finland has had a woman president but I bet most people couldn't find it on a map.

Margaret Thatcher did okay... and I'd say most people can find Great Britain on a map.

Re: POLL - Do you think the country is ready for the FIRST female president?
I don't, and I don't think this country is ready for a black president either.
We live in NY. It is so different from the rest of the country. As much as I hate to say it, I don't think this country is ready for either.

But Great Britain isn't the U.S. To me, there is a big difference. While Clinton may be elected president, she will have challenges in front of her, especially dealing with foreign policies and bigoted people.

We are so behind in that regard. We think we are so "forward"..we are so backward compared to some other countries.

Re: POLL - Do you think the country is ready for the FIRST female president?
No, but GB is a world power and was during Thatcher's tenure. She dealt with many important world issues, too, like the USSR, etc. I think Thatcher had her fair share of challenges, as any head of state (male or female) will have.
Obviously no other country is the US -- and no other country's people get to vote in the election. ;) This part of history is unlike any other, so it'll be difficult for whoever is elected to command international respect.
I am open about not wanting Hillary to be President, but that has nothing to do with her gender. I do think the rest of the world could deal just fine if we had a female President, but I understand and accept that there will be more challenges for a woman President. I don't, however, think those challenges are going to be so awful that a female President couldn't make great strides in foreign affairs.

Re: POLL - Do you think the country is ready for the FIRST female president?
considering that 51% of the world's population is female - i think the US and world can handle it
under Queen Victoria, GB controlled 25% of the WORLD.
Even Iran had a female vice president. I think the US is behind the times in this matter.

I agree.
And, honestly, if i look back and the first woman president is Hillary, it will just take away from the novelty and significance of it for me. Putting my personal feelings for her aside, she wouldn't have the shot at this that she has if it weren't for her Husband and IMO, that doesn't really speak volumes for Women's progress.

I agree as well.
Does anyone think Hillary has gotten as far as she has regardless of who her husband is?
