25 bucks at the grocery store
How much can you buy?
In a household of 4 fairly, ahem, regular individuals (3 of whom are vegetarian/vegan) I swear half of that goes to toilet paper!!!!!
I have an 18 mt old whose nutrition is very important to me. He happens to be very picky, and will really only eat fruit and dairy products. We are raising him vegetarian, so that means veggie burgers and things like that.
Lets not forget diapers and wipes.
Kaching - that above is at least 40 bucks. EASILY. and DH and I haven't even eaten yet. My poor stepdaughters live off of mac n cheese in our house. DH and I eat whatever we can that costs the least.
25 bucks????? It's nothing.

Apparently, you can buy lots of ramen noodles!
$25 does not go far at the grocery store- especially if you want to eat healthfully. I do think about this often as I have many students who are already really overweight. Fattier ground beef, for example, is more expensive than leaner meat. It seems like produce has gotten pricier too, along with everything else.

Re: 25 bucks at the grocery store
I can't even remember the last time I ever only spent $25 in a grocery store. Hec, a gallon of milk is almost $5 alone. Even if I'm running in for "just a couple of things" I'm good for at least $50.
And it does suck that it's more expensive to eat healthy than it is to eat garbage.

I like cold cuts, tuna and PB&J for lunch so that could buy me a few weeks of food. Ask DW. I'm a cheap date.

again , out of context
what i was saying is that i can buy more with $25 in the store, than on one meal in a restaurant; even fast food
it depends on what you buy lb. of ham even lean chopped meat pasta
this can be SEVERAL meals
if you CHOOSE to eat vegan; that is a choice

You can buy cases of ramen noodles with $25 and it fills your belly! Ive done it and lived to talk about it. You can also buy a nice big chicken for less than $25 and make a few meals from that. Ground beef is often on sale. Pasta is like .99-2.00 a box. Sauce is ALWAYS on sale. $6.00 can get you a nice spagetti dinner. Patina with butter and cheese. I could go on forever...

A gallon of organic milk is $7.50
I know its a lot, and it's my choice to put organic milk in my toddler's body, but I can not in good faith give him anything else. It's a shame because they give milk for "free" at daycare (along with the hefty monthly fee) so its a huge chunk out of us. He gets an occasional cup when he wants more than what I sent. It's so hard.

I agree with you on this. This is worth the splurge because it is keeping your son healthy

are you kidding! McDonalds is so expensive! DH and I went a few weeks ago in the first time in forever and it was almost $15 (two value meals)! I could have made pork chops and good side dishes for less than that.
Box of Pasta and jar of sauce = $6?
chili - turkey chop meat is $3.99, kidney beans are $2, chili packet, $1, jar of tomatoes, $2.99. buy those items in bulk and its way cheaper.
grilled cheese - loaf of bread - $2.99, cheese (expensive, again get at BJs), $4.99, and some soup (3 for $4). that is MORE than one meal.
I spent $30.

Re: 25 bucks at the grocery store
I know someone who lived on rice & beans for a long time. $25 goes a longer way in a grocery store than a restaurant, no?
I agree that $25 gets you nowhere in a grocery store. I think the point was don't go to a restaurant & tip someone for serving you food.

I shop for my family, so I know what things cost, as I said in my initial post. However, I also said that I want to buy healthy food, and ramen noodles have enough salt to kill a baby elephant. I don't care how cheap they are.

What do you suggest they eat the ground bveef with?
I didnt want to go this route..debating the nitty gritty details but this is silly now.

And as far as the chicken, I guess we eat less.
