Re: 2nd csection btdt moms: what did u do about your 1st...
actually i was worried about this but it turned out fine. first b.c i had a fantastic recovery so i was able to pick her up by the 2nd week. it depends on your child's age too. DD is 26 months and likes to go up the stairs etc..by herself. if she wanted to be comforted i sat down and held her. i told her i had a big booboo and couldn't pick her up. she accepted that much to my surprise!

My son will be 27 months when this one is born - and he's already 35lbs. I have started to pick him up less and less now, when I can, but I still hold him throughout the day. The real issue for me will be getting him in/out of the crib for naps. I am trying to set up help for the first month after the baby is born.

same here, I hold and pick up DD all the time, she is very clingy lately
I am hoping to just be able to tell her that mommy has a boo boo on her belly and I cannot pick her up., I plan to let her climb into the couch and I can cuddle/hold her like that

yes this was the only time i HAD to pick up DD and i had little or no help the first week. so i had her stand on a chair next to the crib and i quick picked her up and put her in. not ideal...but it worked.but again, i found recovery from the 2nd c-section to be so much better, it was amazing!

Re: 2nd csection btdt moms: what did u do about your 1st...
I'm there right now - 11 days post partum with a 27lb 18 month old. I try to just bend down to his level and hug him. It's not totally satisfying to DS but it does help a little. And at this point I honestly do pick him up sometimes. It's impossible not to when it's just me at home so I just make sure to lift with my legs and do as little of it as possible.
ETA: We put DS #1 in a toddler bed a few weeks before DS #2 was born so I don't have the crib issue.

Re: 2nd csection btdt moms: what did u do about your 1st...
My DS is 27 months old and about 33 pounds. During my pregnancy I tried to not pick him up to much. Now my DD is 6 weeks old and I still haven't picked him up. My OB told me not to until at least 6 weeks. He said that after a c-section at 3 weeks you are only 30% healed and it takes another 3 weeks to get to 100%. My DS saw my boo-boo and I told him I couldn't pick him up because of it. He seems to understand and really doesn't ask anymore.

Re: 2nd csection btdt moms: what did u do about your 1st...
well if it helps any, my son is a bit over 2 and I barely if ever pick him up. To put him on the changing table, but we just got a step stool for that.
After baths, I would carry him to his room in a towel ...someone else will do that for a few weeks, or I will dry him enough to walk.
I cannot think of any other times I carry him or lift him? So I dont think it will be as much of an issue ....so maybe it wont be too hard for you?

Re: 2nd csection btdt moms: what did u do about your 1st...
I'm a little worried about this...but I've been trying to teach her it can't always happen now...hoping to get her used to it when I get home.
I'm always picking her up to dance around, to cuddle or for hugs/"big squeezes"....she's so lovey dovey that I can't imagine what it's going to be like not being able to do that with her for a while
ETA - Thank god DH will be taking a lot of time off so he'll be doing most of the lifting her into the crib, bathing etc...the things he's been doing now for me
