I would never, but I also have somewhat of a support system to either go to the store or watch baby while I go.

I've taken my newborn out and about since day 1.
I'm certainly not staying cooped up in my house for 3 months! I would go stir crazy!
As long as you don't pass the baby around and let people touch the baby... it's fine. At least, that's my opinion.

Re: 3-day old baby in a Wal-Mart?!
I was going crazy after a week in the house. DD was 3 days old when she came home. We went out 2 days later to the ped, and then the following week after her second ped appointment my mom and I took her to children's place and then we went to eat pizza.
I gave birth in January - it's depressing enough as it is without post-pardum hormones being so cold and gray. There's no way I could have stayed inside for 3 months.

The twins were out at 5 days old. They were in their infant car seats with the netting over them. I also didn't let anyone touch them!

Re: 3-day old baby in a Wal-Mart?!
We kept our DD out of public places for about 8wks...then we would go out but not to the mall until she was alittle bit older.

Re: 3-day old baby in a Wal-Mart?!
All the peds of our practice told us that. The nurses at Winthrop told us that. The ped at the orientation tour at Winthrop told us that. One ped from a BRU seminar told us that.
That was enough for me to not take the chance and go to the mall.
We still went out. Just not to stores.

Re: 3-day old baby in a Wal-Mart?!
I had zero problem taking my son out right away. I had family here to help out as well, but we still took him with us to target on maybe day 3 to buy some stuff...
I feel as long as your baby is covered up and strangers aren't passing him/her around it should be ok. But that is just me, and I can understand others waiting.

Re: 3-day old baby in a Wal-Mart?!
I took both my children out within the first few weeks of being home. I don't have anyone to help out and watch the kids so if they wanted to eat, we had to go grocery shopping. Plus, when DS was born, I had a 20 month old. Can you imagine what it would be like to keep a 20 month old cooped up for 2 months?
To me, as long as no one is breathing over the baby and touching the hands and face - I don't see what is so different then having people visit you at home or the first few days of life at the hospital.

Re: 3-day old baby in a Wal-Mart?!
The day after my son came home we went to a bon voyage party for our cousin who was deploying to Iraq. Our doctor said it's a personal choice. We would take him to malls and all of that and he never once got sick. It's really a personal choice. It use to be you shouldn't take the baby out until their christened. But that was in the 50's.

Re: 3-day old baby in a Wal-Mart?!
we only went to my mom's or my MIL's house...if we had to go to germ infested places, i had someone watch him! This was actually my dr's advice! She said wait til they are at least 2 months...she said that's bc if they get a fever before 2 months old, they have to go to a hospital!!
