Re: The Morning After Pill
I think it should be available.
One of the pharmacies near me refused to carry it. I have never needed it, but I won't go there on principle.

Re: The Morning After Pill
I actually don't agree with the law. I don't think anyone but a doctor should prescribe the M.A.P. - I've heard it has horrible side effects and not something that should be "readily available"

I agree. I think it should be readily available to women who need it.

Re: The Morning After Pill
I think it's an interesting issue. I think it will come down to if the law thinks the morning after pill is 'commonly prescribed', otherwise Wal-Mart is not required to carry it.

I am going to watch this one closely, certainly seems as though the arguments for both sides will be interesting.

Re: The Morning After Pill
What is interesting is that some people see the MAP as abortion and I really don't. Condoms break, people have accidents, etc., and I think they should have access to the MAP. IMO, it is better and safer than having an abortion and certainly better than an unwanted child. I believe that people should have access to it.

because many times Walmart pharmacy is the closest pharmacy for people outside of NY.

Re: The Morning After Pill
i know someone who uses it as birth control and i really dont like that. instead of just protecting herself she just goes and gets the pill. but then there are those girls who are raped, etc and its sad if they cant have access to it.
its a tough situation

i agree, i SO dont see it as an abortion pill---- they DO have one though, and the MAP is not it.

I definitely agree, I just think a doctor should monitor your health. As Lolita pointed out, the med can be abused and it's a b!tch of a drug to have in your body from what I heard. I don't think it should be over the counter.

there will ALWAYS be the two extremes but I think and I believe the rape victime will ALWAYS have access to this med

Re: The Morning After Pill
IMO- wheather someone chooses to use it as a form of contraceptive is their choice. If the state law requieres a phramacy to carry it & Wal-Mart illegally chose not to carry it, then they should be liable.

Some people will always abuse medication. People abuse Nyquil and Robutussin.
But I think the vast majority of people use it responsibly.

they are not required to by law. The government allows pharmacies to carry it and Wal-Mart refuses so people are suing them to get them to stock it.

That is a very good point. People abuse lots of things that are legal but they do remain legal.

Oh, sorry..I didn't thoroughly read the article. Then why did they NOT go to another pharmacy?

Re: The Morning After Pill
people do not get get raped enough to carry it on a daily bases.
the women were refered to other phamarices and they receive there medication... this shouldn't be any different if a store doesn't carry somthing 'or' ran out and ask you to visit the next phamacy ...
this shouldn't be a valid form of BC...and that is whole other conversation by itself...

Re: The Morning After Pill
I would like to think that women do not get raped enough to need this pill easily available but unfortunately, rape numbers are very high.

Re: The Morning After Pill
It seems like there is grey area here. It said that they are required to stock medications that are commonly prescribed in their area. I would imagine it would difficult to document how many people ask for it, unless it was a staged act, like this one was, where an independent group was actually keeping track of how many women requested it.
What i found interesting was that Illinois is the only state where WalMart keeps the med in stock. So glad to know that you can stroll into Walmarts throughout the country and buy a gun, but not this medication.

I agree with you. If I see that s store doesn't carry let's say "COACH" and it's a dept. store...then should I be allowed to sue them for that?
