Ahhhh..... you just support them?
I don't support any particular organization. I just tell it like I see it.
In this case... based on the current laws... the people have no basis for a lawsuit. Unless of course, a judge wants to provide a better interpretation of the "grey areas" in the law.
I could hate WalMart and as of right now... i have to side with them on this case.

2nd- someone may be pregnant, and still take their regular BC pill without realizing it, and that will terminate the pregnancy too. IMO, theyre one in the same.
I got preg on the pill... was taking my pill for 2 weeks while I was preg. (because I didnt know) When I told my OB that he wasnt concerned....the last 2 weeks is such a small dose the chances of it neg. effecting my baby was small....
ETA- There must be a rather BIG difference in the MAP and the reg BC pill...if my DR wasnt horrified I had been taking my pill for 2 weeks, already
I just want to say this again (ive said it before in this thread) If the egg is already fertilized the M.A.P does nothing....
ECPs should not be confused with mifepristone, a medicine used for medication abortion. ECPs will not induce an abortion in a woman who is already pregnant, nor will they affect the developing pre-embryo or embryo (Van Look & Stewart, 1998). ECPs prevent unintended pregnancies — and help prevent the need for abortion. Most often, ECPs prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation. They also work by altering the tubal transport of sperm or ova to inhibit fertilization. In 1997, the FDA stated that ECPs may also work by altering the endometrium to inhibit implantation, but a recent study suggests that progestin-only ECPs work only by preventing ovulation or fertilization, and have no effect on implantation, although interception of implantation is a theoretical possibility (Croxotto, et al., 2003; FDA, 1997; Marions, et al., 2002).

Re: The Morning After Pill
I think the women were suing Walmart because Walmart was choosing not to stock the MAP. I think that is what it boiled down to. And the concern is that in many areas, women do not have access to many pharmacies so they would not have easy access to MAP should they want or need it.

Re: The Morning After Pill
A new state law that took effect late last year following heated debate among lawmakers requires all hospitals to provide the morning-after pill to rape victims. It also allows pharmacists to dispense the pill without a prescription, but does not require it."
"Massachusetts pharmacies are required to stock all medications that are commonly prescribed to meet the usual needs of the community,"
"He added that Wal-Mart would formally request clarification of the state regulation from Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly or the state's Board of Pharmacy. He said if either directs the company to carry certain products, "Wal-Mart will abide."
After reading the articles I have to say the law isn't specific enough IMO...And IMO that should be peoples main objective.

Re: The Morning After Pill
And to the arguement about people who do not have health insurance....this is their only way, since there are no other pharmacies near them and no way to get to them...
Not liking that arguement....
And i am curious just how much this medication would cost those that do not have health insurance!

I just wanted to clarify this. Actually if the egg is fertilized, M.A.P. creates an inhostpitable environment so the fertilized egg does not implant. Once the fertilized egg is implanted than MAP will not work.

Re: The Morning After Pill
Based on your info, you're right it doesn't affect implantation.
This was my info: Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs), are an oral drug containing high doses of hormones found in regular oral contraceptive pills, which, when taken after unprotected sexual intercourse, may prevent pregnancy from occurring.
There are several ways ("mechanisms of action") by which such drugs may work. Depending on the time during the menstrual cycle that they are taken, this drug may inhibit or delay ovulation, inhibit tubal transport of the ovum or sperm cell, interfere with fertilization, or, in cases where it fails to prevent fertilization, prevent implantation.

Yes.
not every health insurance covers everything 100%... some will tell you to take a generic drug of XYZ or they may not just be simplely a co-payment. every insurance is different.

it cost me $60 at planned parenthood a few years ago... BUT, they did it on a sliding scale (based on you salary).. so you could get it cheaper if you were in a worse off financial situation...
so, like you said, insurance isnt needed in that situation

Posted by Princessmaris Thats your opinion, but I disagree....
I know when I swallow my pill every morning, im not preg.
ETA:
To each their own... im not judging you neens!!!!
I'm not judging you either (i Really hope it didnt come across like that At All!!)
but my point is- we all have our outlook on it, and theres science that also tells us about it (like Deb said- it IS possible) also, look at how many people HAVE gotten pregnant on the Pill... its Def. possible. but my debate isnt about 'when life begins'... or even the double standard of why One is considered acceptable and the other isnt (regular BC vs. MAP), But, that its each persons right to make the decision for Themselves.
Right....and the owner of walmart made a decsion to sell what they want in there business!
ALthough Im not for MAP... Im not saying it should be banned forever!!! Im simply saying, it should come by prescription! If a person makes the decision to have unprotected sex, and no has to drive 50 miles, to get the pill...thats there choice...
For those that have "accidents" it stinks that gotta make that trip...but at least its still avail. to them!
Wal-Mart is not dispensing MAP even if customers have a prescription. While the plaintiffs in this lawsuit have other pharmacies nearby, in areas where Walmart is the only pharmacy around, Walmart is essentially making the pill unavailable. Hospitals have to dispense the pill, but as many previous posters mentioned, there are several reasons why people may not go to the hospital for the pill.

Re: The Morning After Pill
From all the articles i have read ...Walmart is calling for a clarification to this "law"... And if it requires that they stock it, they will
At this point it is a bit cloudy
