people do not get get raped enough to carry it on a daily bases.

the women were refered to other phamarices and they receive there medication... this shouldn't be any different if a store doesn't carry somthing 'or' ran out and ask you to visit the next phamacy ...

this shouldn't be a valid form of BC...and that is whole other conversation by itself...

Check your rape facts

"Every two and a half minutes, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted.
One in six American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape, and 10% of sexual assault victims are men.
In 2003-2004, there were an average annual 204,370 victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault.
About 44% of rape victims are under age 18, and 80% are under age 30"
And this is just the reported ones.

I agree with you. If I see that s store doesn't carry let's say "COACH" and it's a dept. store...then should I be allowed to sue them for that?

well, thats what's wrong with the country...you can sue anybody for anything...

But Walmart is a huge company, known to come into towns and drive out many of the smaller businesses, and I am willing to bet many of them are pharmacies. I have been in small towns in the US where Walmart is the only game in town, and it is a long distance to get to another pharmacy if you don't have a car.

I think it's an interesting issue. I think it will come down to if the law thinks the morning after pill is 'commonly prescribed', otherwise Wal-Mart is not required to carry it.

I think you are 100% right.

I just hope there are not a lot of towns in Mass where there is only one pharmacy and Walmart is it.

In some areas, that is farther away than Walmart too.

I don't agree with the statement. I think it really depends what area you talk about,

but for example, take Target, I recently switched to having them fill precriptions (if i need it right away, esle i mail order) because nobody and i mean nobody is ever there. They fill it while i shop and its done. When i went to CVS, i would have to wait, or pick it up tomorrow.

I doubt that. It can't be too far because its a public service. Call 911... have an ambulance truck you to the nearest hospital.

Besides... people are talking about the rape word when using this pill. Frankly... if you are raped... you should be going to the hospital anyways and not going to walmart.

What disturbs me is that they aren't just against the MAP w/o an prescription (while I don't agree, i can see that point), Wal Mart has refused to stock it, PERIOD. So even if you have a prescription, you can't get it. Chat Icon

Agreed, but I worked with teenaged welfare moms, who had no car and were about 20 miles from a hospital out in the country. There was a Walmart nearby and for people like them, having Walmart provide this medication would save a lot of trouble and money for taxpayers, since the ambulance bill would be paid for by public programs, and even then, it might not be completely covered.

IMO this isn't just dealing with rape victims, it is also dealing with people in poverty. People resent that women have more children while they are receiving welfare benefits, so why not make it easier for them to be responsible if they have a condom break?

I'm sorry but that is an unrealistic statement.

The VAST majority of women who are raped, especially in date rape, don't go to the hospital. They don't even go to the police. Must just want to be safe.

Re: The Morning After Pill

It shouldn't matter if you are raped or not - if you want to use it, and it is prescribed by your doctor, then why shouldn't you have access to it? If it is legal, who the hell is WalMart to say they won't carry it? They carry GUNS.

And our ER's have enough problems due to people going there for coughs. This medicine is not necessary to give out at the hospital. It does not require you to be kept under a doctor's care while you take it.

Re: The Morning After Pill

Never mind poverty and rape - if a woman wants to take it, and her doctor prescribes it, it's her choice! Get out of the pharmacy business if you don't like doling out meds!

I completely agree. It's so easy to say but so many women don't go b/c they are ashamed. It's not so easy to just go to the hospital and get the pill (after being attacked that is)
