words / phrases that drive you nuts
Okay, I'm looking for something non-political to discuss!
What words / phrases (or even non-words!) drive you nuts?
I'll start.
#1 - "assless chaps" - This is redundant. OF COURSE they're assless. If they weren't assless, they'd be leather pants!
#2 - "irregardless" - Not only is this not a word, if it were a word, it would mean the exact opposite of what people use it to mean.
#3 - "could care less" - No matter how many debates we've had on these boards over this one, the phrase is "couldn't care less." I'd venture to say that 99% of people who say "I could care less" mean to say "I couldn't care less." (Yes, I'm aware of the discussions we've had over this in the past. It still bugs me!)
Anyone else?

I've heard several people over the years say "It's colder than Hell" when it's really cold outside....

"Embarrased of"
There's a commercial on TV for Bio-Oil -- the voiceover says "I used to be embarassed of people seeing my stretch marks..."
Sweetie, you should be more embarassed about the discount copywriter who wrote your script!

Years ago, there was a mattress commercial on the radio, where the actor talked about the "uncomfortableness" he experienced with his old mattress. Every time it came on, I would shout, "the word is DISCOMFORT!"

Not for nothing - I don't know why, it just bugs me.
and
When a post/statement is started with "I don't mean to offend..." That generally implies you know you are about to write/say something offensive but you are going ahead with it anyway.

Oh I also hate when people say "pony" to mean baby horse. Pony does NOT mean baby horse.

Can we include pronunciation?
Let me "AXE" you something...
"Jenni-FAH". My sister worked with a girl who answered the phone this way, "Hi, this is Jenni-FAH."
* And I'm from Queens so I'm not hating on the 718s
