I also hate when you're in a store and the cashier says
"Can I help who's next?"
Makes my skin crawl.

I am guilty of the typical Long Island...

FORTUNOFFS

I'm guilty of that one too...Chat Icon

I justify that one because Fortunoff is actually a family name so I guess Fortunoffs could be Fortunoff's as in the Fortunoff's storeChat Icon

You know what? I think that's exactly my rationale too!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

But then that blows my whole Tiffany issue.

I don't think Tiffany is a real person

Yes there is. The store is named for the Tiffany family.

I'm not a big fan of:
"That's/It's Fabu!"
"That's/It's Gorgy!"

My biggest pet peeve is when people spell separated as seperated. Chat Icon

Re: words / phrases that drive you nuts

My ex-husband says:
"addict" when he should say attic
"acrossed"
"air condition"
At least he never said "supposably" or "aks"

I can't stand when people say they live "IN" an island. You cannot be IN an island, you have to be ON it.Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is true for Long Island; that most people say "On" Long Island but not Manhattan or Staten Island - then most people say "In"

My SILs always say when they are coming here that they are "IN" Long Island visiting their nephew.

Maybe b/c they live ON Staten IslandChat Icon Chat Icon

Is there a right and wrong?

I know I either say I'm from LI or I live "on" LI but when it comes to NY I say I'm either from NY or live "in" NY.

So which is correct?

Re: words / phrases that drive you nuts

Someone mentioned this already but I DESPISE "with that being said" or "having said that". I just don't see the point of it and it seems to have suddenly come out of nowhere. I've only heard it the last two years or so.

I also don't like when people say mani/pedi instead of manicure and pedicure.
